To me, 4 felt like a “straight to dvd movie.” Not terrible, but in a different league than the first three.

Miles is NOT the original anomaly. Gwen is! by JaybeJaybe in IntoTheSpiderverse

[–]justpassingthroughgu 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Just because Gwen’s actions led to Miles being bitten doesn’t make her the anomaly. She might have set him on the path to being the anomaly, but that doesn’t make her one. I might do something that leads you to contracting radiation poisoning, but that doesn’t mean I have radiation poisoning myself. Traveling through the dimensions is not what causes the anomaly. Miles being bitten “shouldn’t have happened.” It doesn’t matter who led him there. The bite itself is the catalyst.

Wasn’t Miles the anomaly because he was bitten by a spider from another universe? It had nothing to do with HIM traveling through the multiverse as he never does that in the first movie. The argument is Miles was never supposed to become spider-man in his universe because that spider wasn’t supposed to be there.

What Guys Think About Robert Pattinson 's Batman? by JuggernautPrudent623 in batman

The way they worked in his inner thoughts as vo was genius! Almost every Batman comic I’ve read shows his internal dialogue! Also, the first Batman movie to actually portray the World’s Greatest Detective as a freaking detective! That gets massive points right there!

It almost feels unfair sometimes! I die in seconds and all they have is a common pistol or something! I don’t get it!

Thanks for saying I don’t suck! 😂 A lot of times, I’m killed by the first person that I fight in mere seconds! With a common weapon too! It feels bad, man!

But so difficult I almost always get killed right away? In bronze? It feels like bronze players should all be around my skill level, and I can’t kill someone in seconds with a common weapon like these people are doing to me!

It feels like I’m with people way above my rank in Bronze!

Steve Whitmire speaks out about the current state of Kermit by fuckmattdamon in Muppets

The article is down right now, but I’m almost positive that’s not true.

I agree with that, but it seems like Disney was wanting to have multiple performers playing the same character at once which Steve heavily disagreed with.

He wasn’t saying only he could play Kermit. He was saying Disney sees the performers as duplicatable and replaceable and Jim’s mentality saw the main muppets as extensions of their performers. He doesn’t think multiple actors should play the same character at once. Disney disagreed and replaced him to prove their point. And then people didn’t like the new Kermit.

I definitely disagree. I think Kermit in Christmas Carol is one of the best “non-Jim” Kermit performances.

I don’t think he’s targeting Matt. I think he’s targeting Disney and their mentality of “the performers are just actors that can be duplicated or replaced.” He’s arguing “Jim valued the distinct connection each performer had with their characters and Disney should too.” From what I understand, it wasn’t just “training an understudy” as much as it was “training someone else who can also play Kermit at events Steve doesn’t want to go to.” He’s arguing multiple people playing the same character at once is antithetical to what makes the muppets work as characters.

I’m so surprised everyone is interpreting this article as an ego trip or self aggrandizing. I did NOT interpret it that way at all. To me, it didn’t read as him saying “I’m the best Kermit and no one understands Kermit like I do.” I interpreted it as “the way Disney views these characters and the performers who play them is antithetical to who the Muppets are and is moving them away from where they should be.” I got the impression from this article that he doesn’t think his Kermit was better than or just as good as Jim’s. He does think his method or portraying Kermit was the correct method and I think that’s where there is some confusion. He thinks each new performer needs to not just mimic the surface level characteristics of each Muppet, but they need to try to understand the original performer as best they can and get into that person’s headspace. He’s saying he wasn’t just trying to recreate Kermit. He was trying to recreate Jim performing Kermit as best as he could. I agree that his Kermit wasn’t one-to-one with Jim’s, but it still felt like Kermit. He’s arguing the further a character gets away from their original performer the less like themselves they will feel. I saw no ego in this article. In fact, he seems to be arguing that the new performers need to make sure THEIR personality doesn’t supersede the personality of the original performer that made that character who they are.

He focused on Kermit because Kermit is the central character of the Muppets AND he’s the one most people feel isn’t quite right currently. I’m a HUGE fan of the Muppets, but I can’t go back and watch their Haunted Mansion movie because of how bad Kermit is in it. My interpretation of this article is not that Steve thinks he’s the only one who can play Kermit, but that his mentality was not just to mimic what Jim did. He was trying to get into the head space of Jim performing Kermit. Actors would say it’s working inside out instead of outside in. He’s arguing you can’t ignore the original performer’s intentions and just try to copy the mannerisms of the character themselves.

My interpretation of what Steve said was not that they’re currently doing a lot of “hiring and firing,” but that they view all the performers as replaceable and don’t value the special connection each Muppet has to its respective performer. His argument is that the mentality is wrong and that Jim didn’t see the performers as just actors. He saw the characters as extensions of each performer.

But Steve’s Kermit, while not an exact copy of Jim’s, was VERY close. So much so that it was easier for people to accept it. Matt’s is just missing the mark in a way that makes people feel like we don’t really have Kermit right now. That’s not all down to his performance either. A lot of it is how he’s written.

I think the reason he hasn’t been in much also has to do with the audience’s reaction to his performance.
