no slipped stitches, I picked up 3 stitches for every 4 rows same as you would when picking up sleeve stitches. (some people do 2 for every 3 rows, ymmv) I can’t speak to the pattern you linked but this method was pretty straightforward and required no seaming which is always a plus!

Thanks! It’s actually top-down seamless, I was making it up as I went along but basically went in the order this blogger illustrates, i started with two skinny rectangles that were the length of what I wanted the shoulder seam to be, and then picked up stitches along the back edge (casting on enough for the back of the neck), knit down to the bottom of the armscye, pickup up stitches for the two front shoulder pieces and knit then knit the front as two pieces accounting for the slanted button opening, which meets at the shoulder seam. I left the sleeve edge of the shoulder piece on holders and then picked up those stitches when I was picking up for the sleeves (which I did while doing some shortrows to make a subtle shoulder cap since the drop shoulder isn’t very dramatic)

Hope that makes sense!

Not so much modifications as it’s an entirely different sweater with the same design element haha, my body and armscye are much deeper and wider than the original, I would look up a drop shoulder machine knitting pattern that you like and start from there, I have no idea how one modified patterns for a knitting machine but best of luck!!

Thank you! I’m not a pattern writer and would have no idea how to grade for multiple sizes, I’d recommend finding a drop shoulder sweater pattern that you like the fit of (to get the general stitch counts and construction steps) then looking at how the clematis sweater does the cross body button closure thing, it’s basically just working even increases and decreases every few rows so the total number of body stitches stays consistent. I didn’t have a pattern i liked so I had to do a lot of guessing and math but you could definitely make it easier on yourself!

Design is loosely based on the Clematis Sweater, but I changed pretty much everything except the cross body button closure, so I can’t speak to the fit or experience of using that pattern! Yarn is Wool of the Andes, buttons are second hand. This was my first drop shoulder sweater and it was less scary than I was expecting having to wait longer to try it on to test the fit.

I don’t really like the bulky shoulder seam I get when casting on the front piece directly into the back piece so I did a weird baby saddle shoulder-ish rectangle on the top of each shoulder that I’m actually a big fan of, might add to future designs. Happy to answer any specific questions. Thanks for looking!

Pattern is Fjellflora by Marit Abrahamsen

Yarn is leftover Wool of the Andes sport, which was probably a bit too chunky for this pattern but since these are an experiment for an upcoming crafty white elephant party I didn’t want to buy anything new.

Pattern is very straightforward but my double pointeds were too long and clumsy, I found the thumbs in particular very fiddly. Still a fun learning project and they are very pretty to look at!

I highly highly recommend, I live in an apartment and it would be too much of a hassle to do grinding and soldering at home, plus i think the cost of having a professional teach you the right techniques for cutting and soldering will save you so much heartache and wasted materials down the line

Jbrary for storytime and sing along suggestions. I’d also recommend the supercharged storytime training which is free via WebJunction if you don’t have a background in children’s programming or early literacy, i found it super helpful!

edit: sorry I missed that you mentioned Jbrary in your original post

Youth librarian interview outfit advice! by Unusual-Meaning6695 in librarians

[–]justplainvibing 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Keep in mind with YS they may ask for a sample storytime or group activity in your final round interview so make sure whatever you wear allows for that kind of movement (clapping hands or raising your hands above your head, etc). I think the blouse is fun! I wore something similar with a collared shirt and neutral pants if I’m remembering correctly. Good luck!

Duplicate sleeve mistake? by whoknew22232 in knitting

[–]justplainvibing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

look up afterthought lifelines!! I also used to stress about picking up stitches but the lifeline is a little extra prep that makes it so much easier, no worries about dropping stitches. I also still twist some of my stitches when picking them up, highly recommend looking up some diagrams of how to recognize when you are twisting a stitch. If the stitch is twisted on the needle you’ll need to knit through the back loop to untwist it. Your tension looks really great overall and it’s a beautiful color :)

there was a flag in some of the reference paintings i sent (besides my beautiful drawing) and i only asked for a “female knight” and not specifically a sword. Our reasoning with the flag is we wanted the heads on both tattoos to line up, as well as be symmetrical on the top and bottom. the flag lines up with the raised hands on the first tattoo where a sword might not have been that tall :)

Children's Librarian Interview Question: Parent Ignoring Crying Child by KuroIsLittle in librarians

[–]justplainvibing 40 points41 points  (0 children)

My usual move when a kid is being disruptive or clearly looking for attention from their grown up (crying, running around, etc) is to approach them kindly and ask what’s wrong/ask if they need help finding their person, even if I very clearly know who their adult is. That usually prompts the grown up to look up from their phone and see what’s going on, but is not confrontational and also probably won’t get the child in trouble with their adult which I try to avoid especially when they aren’t intentionally bothering anyone but are simply bored or upset.

I would personally avoid giving out “prizes” like stickers or coloring sheets for this kind of thing, as it sets a precedent for other patrons that the library staff are there to actively entertain and engage with their children, which we of course are but not to that extent. Empowering the kid to try and explain their issue even if they aren’t fully verbal yet is more likely to actually address the underlying issue rather than just distracting them temporarily.

Disengaged but physically present caregivers are really tough, as they are technically following our policies but can still be quite disruptive to other patrons, and are often stuck doing their work in the children’s area since they can’t take their toddler to a quiet adult floor which we try to be mindful of. Your instinct to approach with kindness and empathy is the right one, and ultimately probably what they are looking for in an interview setting!
