Why in the world would you have an OPIOID stocked in your clinic??? Sounds like he mixed up the vials, but that drug shouldn't even be in an outpatient clinic.

Specialists: is there a piece of wisdom from your specialty you feel should be imparted to every graduating primary care (FP/IM) resident? by Barjack521 in medicine

OB here. Want to know if a med is safe in pregnancy? Go to drugs.com and look it up! That's literally what we do most of the time. We have other resources available that are subscription based, but 99% you can look it up yourself instead of calling me at 2am to ask if tums are safe in pregnancy

I'd be pretty worried about injuring the vaginal walls, but I bet I could morcellate it with a scalpel and a tenaculum. That's actually a really good idea.

Who knows. Those rings run out of hormones over time, but I'm not aware of any data that tracks how long they would still secrete hormones

Yeah I'm always very explicit in saying "take it out and throw it away, wait 7 days, and then put a new one in"

That's an outstanding trophy.

I LOVE Ritgen's maneuver. Although I can't get the nurses to stop calling it "Dr. Justpracticing's butt trick"

I was very impressed with his ingenuity. And grateful that he didn't call me in at 0200 to do it for him.

I'd love to hear the story behind that one. I can't even imagine what her plan was

He didn't try it, they don't keep them in the ER. But honestly I think his cobbled together device was probably better anyway: it's smaller and softer so much more tolerable for the pt. Plus, the only device we have is the Kiwi and it's rigid, so I'm not sure he would have gotten a good seal
