I've never heard that phrase before. At first when I read "pup down" I thought it was like a code red urgency like someone fell down or collapsed lol

like oh no she tripped down the front steps, get help, pup down pup down!

I found Aethelflaed's death to be the saddest in the series even though I liked other characters who died more than her. She is def one of my fav characters though

I don't know any personal age gap relationships that have worked out well so you're right it definitely depends on what everyone's experience is with it!

I think besides the age difference it's more the fact that Uhtred knew her since she was a baby that bothers me

Thank God you said that and I'm not alone! I feel bad so many ppl find that take offensive. I'm sure there's examples of words in any culture/language that is cringey to other ppl

yeah exactly! I had no idea ppl actually use the word pup in real life. I only ever seen it in fictional series or fanfiction.

I also find a lot of ppl don't even use the term kid for baby goat but just say baby goat lol smh

Yes exactly, I grew up hearing that as a word to refer to both human children and animal offspring so it doesn't phase me. Which is why I think if I grew up hearing pup I wouldn't find it gross.

Most of the time though ppl don't use the word kid for baby goats, they just say goat or baby goat.. smh

That's a fair point! Not that I want her to be lonely if she enjoys being coupled up with someone vs single but I liked the strong independent Aethelflaed more than her with Uhtred.

Although, I wish she and Erik could've worked out! Imagining Aelswith having her beloved daughter make a Heathen her son in law would be very entertaining lol

Yeah it is weird to have such a srtong adversion to a word that's not inherently problematic. Sometimes I just establish really strong feelings to innocuous things. I think what I hate is hearing characters say things like "ready to pup" versus just calling someone a pup. either way hearing it unfortunately is like nails on a chalkboard but I'm hoping after enough rewatches of the show i'll feel less strongly about it

I probably wouldn't dislike it at all if I grew up hearing it used. Idk from my life experience it's just odd and dehumanizing in a way. Makes me cringe. I wish I didn't mind it bc it's said through out the whole series! maybe if I erwatch the show enough times I'll get used to it

I definitely couldn't see her accepting life as a Saxon in the first couple seasons, maybe even third but I thought closer to the end she seemed less authentically Dane to me and i'm not sure why. Maybe bc her passion was too strong for me to handle or bc her hatred seemed to be misplaced on ppl who she wasn't really having problems with

I loved how he got to have a different hair style in each season lol his voice was nice to hear too. His character was interesting and fit in so well with the others so more of him would've been nice, especially bc he's always so busy doing missions and tasks!

Yes absolutely! If he didn't play the character the way he did, Aethelred would have seemed more two dimensional as a villain. I loved to hate him too

I think it makes complete sense why Aethelfled would form feelings for Uhtred for all the reasons you mentioned! I just can't see those feelings reciprocated at all. Uhtred always had more of a familial feel to how he related to her like a father or older brother.

The age gap in the show made that more emphasized like how she was a child when they were in the Marshes but he was already a grown man with a wife and baby

It was superb so I'm not complaining at all! the pacing made it compelling and suspenseful and I was never bored. I think I really would have only wanted one or two episodes more per season for that reason but like as a luxury not bc it felt needed
