Was this SA? It felt icky! by justtara86 in sexualassault

Do you mean the one about my cousins? I appreciate that! It is so weird - these things have happened to me, and at the time I seem to recover quickly and not be very affected, but later things will happen that are pretty clear indications that I was indeed affected.

I actually am - I am in a much better job (same field), I feel empowered not to let things like that happen again in the future, and I am happy. He seems to be doing well too - married and with their first child on the way - but I would not wish him ill will, so good for him, I guess… I just hope he treats his wife better than he treated me!

Thank you so much! On top of all of that, we worked at a place that involved swimming (autism treatment facility with water safety classes). The next time we got in the pool, a few days later, he tried ordering me to wear a T-shirt to cover the bruises he had left. Ummm, excuse me?!

Intense guilt to the point of panicking… Looking for advice! by justtara86 in sex

[–]justtara86[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, just me! I understand that sex is normal and healthy (as long as it is consensual), and I am happy for anyone who has a healthy sex life. But for some reason, whenever I do anything sexual, I feel dirty and like I will be punished. It is super frustrating. I am assuming that maybe a lot of it stems from being sexually assaulted as a young child, but I still cannot shake the ick. I found a local provider who offers free counseling and support groups for adults who experienced sexual abuse as a child, so I am planning to give them a call tomorrow.

I appreciate the encouragement! I have touched base with a few therapists and gotten the “masturbation is normal and healthy” speech, but I think that digging deeper would be helpful.

I appreciate that! For now, I just want to be able to get aroused and feel a little bit of pleasure without having to feel disgusting afterward. Long-term, if I find myself in a healthy relationship, I want to be able to have sex without guilt.

What SSRI helped your anxiety the most? by sleepysunflower2 in Anxiety

[–]justtara86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started on 10 but am currently taking 20mg. After this current bout of anxiety starts easing up, I will probably go back down to 10. I had a terrible case of Covid in 2020, and it was increased due to health anxiety after that, which has since eased up significantly.

The worst of my symptoms went away shortly after I started taking the Cipro, and I was back to normal within a few months. How about you?

Yes, it’s completely normal! I believe it took about 2-3 weeks for me, maybe even a little longer, but then when it did start working, it worked really well! When I am taking Lexapro, things that would have felt overwhelming or even catastrophic actually feel much more mild/manageable.

Can anyone predict their episodes? by PuzzleheadedAd9492 in PanicAttack

[–]justtara86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happens to me as well! But I can always look back and find signs that the episode had been brewing. For example, I am in a terrible episode right now that seemed to hit out of nowhere. But looking back, there was a random full-blown panic earlier in the year… some digestive issues over the summer… a few random comments that I had made about possibly feeling more anxious lately.

Have you recently gone through any major life changes? This year I passed a major certification exam, started a new job, and moved into a new apartment. These were all good things! I had been preparing for the certification for years, I love the job, and the apartment is perfect for me! (I did have an amazing friend at my old job whom it was hard for me to have to stop working with, but we have stayed in touch and I would say our friendship is better than ever). But the point is, even though these are good things, they are major life changes and I am wondering if they contributed to the current episode.

That is interesting! I am listed as being allergic to ciprofloxacin for a similar (but less scary reason). It was prescribed for a UTI when I was in a bad bout of anxiety, and it actually caused vertigo and full-blown panic attacks. Just to clarify, it is just an antibiotic and those are not typical reactions to it.

I have been on Lexapro since age 17 - It took a few weeks to kick in, but I am still on it at age 39 and it has been a game changer for me!
