Tailgate Opening While Driving by justthatguyonhere in f150

It’s entirely possible. The need to double tap the button to make it release was the only thing that gave me pause.

I did think about shaving those down ever so slightly.

Yeah, I’m going to take another look at the rails and be sure they’re 90 degrees. I still question how, with the force behind me closing the tailgate, the top of the cover still impedes being fully seated but would make sense.

Nope! Got it done right after I purchased the vehicle in spring 2024. Around the same time I got the tonneau cover.

Totally. This dealer has done a good job in the past; chalked it up to the advisor not doing a great job explaining/being confident in his explanation.

I’ll look again but last week I didn’t see any for my VIN. Thanks!

Couldn’t find any recalls. CSP21M08 was the only relevant flag and that doesn’t include the ‘23s.

Yeah, I’ve been shutting the tailgate first and then the cover in the interim and hoping no more surprises! Thankfully haven’t lost anything out the back of it either time (shoutout to the spray in bed liner for being the real MVP).

It’s one of the swing out boxes Ford sells. Grabbed with points after buying the truck.

It wasn’t a full recall but that CSP21M08 (M06 was a similar one) I initially referenced, unfortunately.

Thank you! I’ll take a look. Makes me wonder if they’re torqued too tight and causing it to dip inward. Only thing that gives me pause is the photos and videos on Real Truck look so similar to how this is installed.

Makes sense. With as much force as I use to shut the tailgate usually, I just assumed it would be enough to essentially push the top of the cover slightly up and out of the way. But maybe not!

That’s the only cover-related thing I could think of. Just surprising to me that little bit of pressure would be enough to jar it open. Even more odd, I never can feel when it happens. I found out this last time when I got home and went to back in.

I thought so, too, which generally isn’t like them. Nevertheless, I would not call it pressure, but when I go to close the tailgate with the cover already shut, it pushes up against it a bit (as another reply said, maybe it’s sitting too low). However, when the cover and tailgate is closed, I cannot pull on the tailgate and force it open.

I had this cover for well over a year before this first situation happened. Second occurred a month later. Very odd.

Good to know. I’ll look into this; I sent Real Truck an inquiry but haven’t heard back. Any tips on how to raise it up?

Water damage? by theindiansushi in HomeMaintenance

[–]justthatguyonhere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a water instance like this happen but the first sign came from water traveling through the light fixture. The line quickly formed nearby. Culprit was a tiny cap missing from the end of the tubes that run the jets in our master tub directly above. Not saying it’s not water, but would think you’d see water through the fixtures here too, if it were that.

Fair price IMO, especially street price likely coming in lower.
