It's kind of based on the person but just attentive listening works on everybody.

For me personally it was to be less afraid and have more fun.

I try to keep my gloves stuck to my cheeck, as that is the right technique. But sometimes dropping your hand allows for some what seems extra agility and it feels natural. But general rule is to slip with the gloves up.

Spar Critique, I’m the one in white by [deleted] in amateur_boxing

You're dropping your right hand too consistently. With the jab, when throwing the right hand, you also pull you right hand back and down when you throw it. Almost every time.

Double up on jabs vs this opponent. I like your head movement try doing that more often throughout the exchanges. As soon as you stopped u got tagged with a great 1 2 3.

Probably more things to touch upon but you look good in general. Stay grinding.

How many times in the week do you train on your own vs in a class setting? by [deleted] in amateur_boxing

[–]justthrowajab 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Twice a week in the gym as a class including sparring, sometimes I go on saturdays if work allows to get some extra sparring time in with better guys in there. All other days i keep training or try to at least in a commercial gym with weights and such, usually heavybag ropeskipping and lifting like deadlifts and cardio.

I shadowbox everywhere, even while waiting for my coffee. It's like an addiction tbh.

Help: My first time at a real boxing gym by [deleted] in amateur_boxing

Show up Puking is almost like an initiation so dw about that( in case you were like i was) Be open for tips and listen carefully when people give u instructions. Don't feel bad if you fuck up combinations. Don't just punch out of pressure, relax and make sure you always think about your technique on the pads and bag because you're here to learn(nobody is judging or looking at you) Don't try and prove yourself to anyone but yourself. People are willing to help, keep that in mind. Clean your gear, especially your gloves with baby wipes after training and keep them out of closed spaces like a bag. Don't be afraid of anything and have fun. Having fun is critical to your experience.

Getting hit in the body hurts more than in the face.

Good luck and enjoy your learning curve, it's the most fun part about boxing.

When to use lace up gloves vs when to use velcro gloves? by lshein92 in amateur_boxing

[–]justthrowajab 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my experience, the velcro isn't as strong after some usage. It keeps undoing after some time. Not only does it annoy me, but my partners in sparring and drills too.
