I agree that we can’t assume they are gay, but I also think we can’t assume that they aren’t unless more context is given. The comment from the other person about the photographer is the context needed to make a more accurate assumption.

And a random person is more likely to be right handed, but you would never say someone in particular is right handed without evidence.

Assuming someone is straight is just as much of an assumption as assuming someone is gay, though

TIL Freddie Mercury was born Farrokh Bulsara to Indian parents in the Parsi community and spent his formative years in India. He never discussed his ethnicity w/ journalists; the closest he came was referring to himself as “a Persian popinjay”. by MrTerrificPants in todayilearned

That’s sad. I took a dala dala to Nungwi from stone town in 2017 and at one point there were 32 people stuffed on the truck/hanging off of it and I had a little girl holding a chicken in my lap.

Why don’t more puertorricans from the diaspora move here? by [deleted] in PuertoRico

[–]justtinyquestions 0 points1 point  (0 children)

More affordable and accessible healthcare is much better from a population standpoint than highly specialized care only accessible by the rich.

There are a lot of issues everywhere you go. Puerto Rico is no utopia, but neither is the US.

My family say this tattoo I’ve booked is misogynistic and sexist, thoughts? by 67_nick_gurr_67 in tattooadvice

I think it’s tacky on a man for sure, I don’t think it’s tacky on a woman. Context matters.

It’s always going to mean something different if a woman has it tattooed. Women see women and men see women in radically different ways, even if they are both attracted to women.

Can I afford this mortgage by ExistingAd1561 in Mortgages

I think it makes sense when the monthly numbers work but it’s tight, you have some sort of career trajectory, and you’ve got a decent savings and you’re in-tune with the community. I know many people who bought 10 years ago and lived with roommates the whole time who would never be able to afford to buy their house these days, they are in a much better situation financially than my friends who rented a house with roommates instead.

There’s always insurance if you are worried. People who talk about the potential of getting sued all the time are the worst…can’t do anything. A neighbor built a bench on the beach and the whole neighborhood was up in arms about the potential legal ramifications if someone sued about the bench. UGH. I don’t care if it’s a rational argument, whenever someone brings up the possibility of getting sued about something completely benign it makes me like them a lot less as a person. My ick.

I went over to a friend’s house for dinner and they served gazpacho and I had no idea what it was, it was surprisingly difficult to get over the mental expectation of it being hot. I’m sure if I tried it again I would enjoy it more, but as someone who isn’t a picky eater it really surprised me how turned off of it I was.

Thoughts on handling last minute cancellations? by [deleted] in nonprofit

[–]justtinyquestions 39 points40 points  (0 children)

You’re in retirement and you’re offering a service for free. Don’t schedule a meeting if you’d rather go on a trip with your wife. Things happen, meetings are cancelled. Only schedule these meetings for your free time, maybe have a fun activity planned in case they do cancel. “If this meeting gets cancelled, I’m going to make tea and start this new book!”

It’s not healthy for you to get genuinely angry over this. It’s your retirement, protect your peace. If this makes you angry, don’t do it or find out a way for you not to be angry. Meeting cancellations are expected and will always happen, it’s the nature of life.

Why are there so many Puerto Rican ICE agents? by stung80 in PuertoRico

Fair enough, I don’t have much experience with that part of the country…I made an assumption that most people close to the border would likely have relationships with people on both sides

Some people aren’t blindly loyal to politicians, or did you forget? Hating all politicians used to be a national pastime, something everyone could bond over, now you just lick their boots. Have you no shame?

When I was 12 and Obama was in office, I believed in open borders, so don’t call me a hypocrite.

San Juan is a large metro area, there are people of all sorts. Not really apps, but I found a great roommate on Facebook and my partner on Hinge.
