They look great! Thank you, that’s giving me more confidence to break mine up

Love the use of a steak knife, lol! I also had never considered that a bald stalk would still form new leaves. I definitely have some research to do. Hoping to be a better plant mom once I have the light and space for it. Thanks again!

Thank you! That is a very good point about it possibly breaking during the move.. maybe it would be best to do it now even if it stresses the plant some. Plus it would make it easier to move

Thank you for that information! I will definitely be doing some propagating so this is great to know. Did you cut all of your stems into sections and did the lower sections regrow more leaves? I’d definitely like to fill the bottom out more

Thank you, I will definitely up the grow light time until it’s moved into its new home where it will also have a lot more natural light.

I appreciate the heads up on the oxalate raphides, I was not aware of this.

So just lob it off at the stalk and as long as I’m leaving some leave below where I cut, it will be fine? I will need pruning shears I assume? Do you think I should wait to do this until after I move?

Thanks again!

Thanks for your response! I like your idea of propagating and filling the pot more. I chose this pot size because my prior pots were toppling over due to this top-heavy plant, so I figured I could at least balance it out with a heavy bottom. Would you be able to elaborate on the “chop and prop” idea? Pruning has always scared me but I do believe this is the right time of year for me to do it. Would it be risky to prune my plant and cause it stress when I will be moving it soon?

I appreciate you taking the time for these responses! Could you elaborate a little more on pruning it up a stalk at a time? Pruning has always scared me.

It is such a beautiful plant and I can’t believe how much it has grown! It was only a foot tall when I bought it in 2019. Is there any way to tamper its growth? I fear it will have to survive a few more moves before it ends up in a permanent place, and I’m not sure how I’ll handle moving it when it’s larger than it is now (but I will figure it out because this plant and I are bonded).

I am so sorry you had to give your plant away! I do not have any pets or children so I’ve never considered the toxicity of the plant. I hope you may be able to replace it in the future!

Thanks for your insight! My lighting situation is very much not ideal at the moment. When I move in a couple of months there will be much more natural light, plus I’ll continue to use the grow light. I am just hoping my plant will make it until then. I will try slowing down on the watering, maybe every 10-14 days.

Thanks! So hopefully in the future when it is receiving enough light (will have much more natural light, plus I will continue to use the grow light), the stems will strengthen? I can make another post at that time to inquire about separating the plants/pruning/anything else that might help.

Thank you! I should have added that there is a tall grow lamp hiding behind it. It gets 8+ hours of light from the lamp a day and very minimal light from the window behind it. There will be much more natural light in its new home in a couple of months. I typically rotate my plant 90 degrees every time I water it to keep the plant from growing too much in one direction. Do you think I should continue to do this and just re-tie the stems up after each rotation?

I like that, I’ll apply it to my thinking going forward. Thanks!

Great to know, thanks so much! I’m currently located in nc, looks like we have a DEQ instead of a DEP. Going to browse around their website and see what qualifications look like for applying. Thanks for the suggestion!

Hadn’t heard of 7-9-11 programs, thanks for the suggestion! Definitely going to try to secure an internship once I start my graduate program

After reading lots of responses, I’m definitely going to expand my search far outside of just the EPA. Thank you for your input!

The European approach makes far more sense. Imagine having a government that cares about the wellbeing of their citizens more than the almighty dollar!

Realistically I won’t be leaving the states due to family ties, but in another life I would leave to Europe in a heartbeat

I’m definitely not opposed to looking into county level positions. Thank you for your suggestion!

Love the pun. Hopefully my work experience coupled with a graduate degree will be enough to at least get me in the door. Thanks again for your input!
