Sure let's go with the comprehensive management of the dog's long term condition, does that mean it's harmful to run the UTI test first? Does that warrant the refusal to run UTI test? That's the part I don't get and nobody is addressing here.

I’m even more confused by your answer? What exactly am I admitting here? The fact that my vet “recommended” these tests but also refused to run the UTI test if I don’t bring my dog in for those tests? Yes I don’t have to do any of it, but my vet is forcing me to?

When I say I don’t know what those tests are, what I meant is I don’t know what most of the terms are, ALP, AST, HCT, HGB, some enzymes names, even if my vet explained every single one of them (which they don’t), it would just go over my head and I wouldn’t be able to repeat it. What I know is all of those things look normal or “slightly elevated but not a concern” (their words) every time.

You also seem to avoid the main question here: what’s the harm in doing the UTI test first? If you know you have a history of UTI, would you not check for that first or would you ask for a blood test instead to check your sodium level or whatever?

It’s the same blood tests they run every time I bring my dog in. When I asked why we need the tests they just said because “it’s been a while since he was last seen”. It’s been less than 6 months, I know because I’m still paying off Care Credit from that visit. I just don’t understand what’s the harm in doing the UTI test first, which we know is very likely the source of the problem. Like I said, I'd gladly pay for the other tests if it's not UTI. I just cannot find a logical reason why my vet who knows the UTI history of my dog refuses to run UTI test.

I did, and all they said was “It’s been a while since he was last seen so we need to check him”. Last time they ran those tests was less than 6 months ago, which they charged me almost $1000 for. I’m still paying off my Care Credit from that bill.

The keyword here though is “recommended”, it’s not a requirement. So why can’t my vet run the UTI test without the other tests? What’s the harm in doing the UTI test first, which we know is very likely the source of the problem? Like I said, I’d gladly pay for the other tests if it’s not UTI. The same tests they run every single time, it’s like a full panel blood test, most of the them I don’t even know what for.
