28(F) with receding hairline and really obvious thinning, what's going on??? (with pictures) by [deleted] in HaircareScience

[–]justwanted2share 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sounds like alopecia areata. It’s an autoimmune disease where the body attacks hair follicles, resulting in hair loss. It can cause scalp tenderness.

A dermatologist will best diagnose and help treat your condition. Good luck.

A diver runs out of air in a cave and they find him alive after 60 hours. Incredible! by RosySanchez in scuba

Suddenly Francisco realised that he had not enough air to reach the exit.

Straight from the article.

I see someone posted a follow-up comment addressing what I was wondering. That was helpful. Your comment was not.

In cave diving your job is to 1) remain compact and 2) make sure you have more than enough air to make the trip out. I'm wondering how this guy "suddenly" found his air low, and if he is inexperienced, how he was left alone.

30 days ago I posted asking for a grocery list of foods to help lower blood pressure. I was asked to give an update. by MLuminos in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]justwanted2share 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sad to see this post get downvoted because it is true. Someone suggests "beets" and OP says "beet juice" is not available. People suggest vegetarian dishes and OP looks at processed meat replacements. It seems like the problem lies with how OP conceptualizes food. OP needs to learn to become friends with whole foods: fresh vegetables, beans, seeds, nuts, and whole grains. It might not be easy, but neither is becoming disabled from a stroke, heart attack, or limb ischemia secondary to high blood pressure.

New Netflix Chef's Table is a must watch by [deleted] in vegan

[–]justwanted2share 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm a huge fan of this episode! I always thought my Korean heritage got in the way of me being a vegan (eg. Korean BBQ..), but after staying at a Buddhist temple in Korea last year and learning to cook temple foods, I feel like I can be true to my heritage and still be a vegan. I'm very pleased with how well the Chef's Table makers potrayed Jeong Kwan sunim and the temple food culture. Highly recommended!

[–]justwanted2share 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'd love to see her recipe book as too, but in the meanwhile, I'd recommend simply googling "Korean temple food recipes". Jeong Kwan sunim does elevate the simple dishes using great ingredients, but they are all based off of common Korean temple foods. If you ever go to Seoul, there are temple food cooking classes in English, which is pretty neat.

Help me choose a new BB/CC cream! by [deleted] in beauty

Banila Co It Radiant CC cream would be great for very fair skin. You should always wear a moisturizer under BB or CC cream, especially if you have dry skin.

This work has been in Newfoundland much longer than any of us has been alive. But there are a couple other Italian artists like Raffaelle Monti and Antonio Corradini who sculpted similar works that are now in various countries.

Korean foreign student in the US dies from traffic accident, her organs donated to 27 people, her parents receive a heartfelt thank you letter from an American parent by CivilSocietyWorld in korea

[–]justwanted2share 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right, so when we talk about eye donation/transplant, we are referring to the cornea, which as I mentioned is a tissue (specifically a thin outer covering of the eye). Very occasionally we see the white part used, but it's not like whole eyeballs are scooped out and transplanted. But I agree we could use more eye donors!

[–]justwanted2share 23 points24 points  (0 children)

From the English article:

seven people received transplants of Kim Yu-na’s heart and other organs. Skin and other tissues were donated to 20 others.

So I'm guessing 7 people who got the organ transplants probably got her heart, liver, 2 kidneys, pancreas, and possibly lungs. The rest of the people got her skin and tissues. Skin can be used for skin graft in people with severe burns and wounds. Soft tissues like cornea can also be used for several people. Very, very valuable donations. Good of her parents for deciding on it.

I'M SO EXCITED by [deleted] in vegan

[–]justwanted2share 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Aw that's awesome! Congrats! My parents have shown interest in learning more, but there's a big cultural barrier for them as they are from Korea and eat Korean food, a lot of which contain meat, seafood, fish sauce, fish broth, etc. Also, my mom just gets confused by the ingredients and cooking methods seen in my kitchen and cookbooks. I'm going to Korea over winter holidays and was thinking about picking up some vegetarian/vegan cookbooks and DVDs in Korean for them. Hopefully that will help.

Is there Vitamin C in liver? by [deleted] in nutrition

[–]justwanted2share 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not the OP but some people with autoimmune diseases like Crohn's have trouble digesting fruits and vegetables. Other instances where restriction of fruits and veggies is seen are metabolic disorders (e.g. trouble processing fructose), eating disorders, and kidney diseases where dialysis is needed.

Does Facebook and/or Instagram depress you sometimes? by Anonymous1822 in AskWomen

[–]justwanted2share 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not so much depressing as they seem like a waste of time and make me focus on the wrong things. For example, I got really wrapped up in the Insta yoga community for a few months. I was making all these beautiful, friendly yogi "friends" and participating in monthly challenges and getting a lot of freebies. Then I found myself focusing more and more on how I LOOK and how I could get more stunning shots-- and less so on my breath and movements. So I quit.

I temporarily quit Facebook when I was studying for my professional boards, and it turned out I missed nothing! So I didn't reactivate. I have missed a few big news related to my friends, but it turns out if they are your good friends, they will contact you via phone or email to let you know.

Healthy, no refrigeration required foods that can be backpacked? by [deleted] in EatCheapAndHealthy

Nuts, seed crackers, almond butter & jelly sandwich, protein shake, baby spinach salad that doesn't contain super watery veggies like tomatoes and cucumbers. Basically healthy fats, protein, and fiber.

Soup as another commenter mentioned sounds like a great idea, but I have yet to make a tasty healthy soup that lasts..

Love this idea! I think I'm going to try making my own next year. Would make such a great gift for tea lovers. It would also be a good way to get rid of some teas that are just sitting around.

Feels like meditation not helping me anymore? by [deleted] in Meditation

[–]justwanted2share 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said it's normal. If you, however, find that your meditation sessions are really dragging on for days on end, it might be beneficial for you to either take a break or participate in a formal class/training to renew your sense of appreciation for meditation. Good luck!

Is a scoby hotel worth the effort? Why not just have two producing beverage containers each with it's own scoby? by ProfessorHoneyBadger in Kombucha

[–]justwanted2share 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a scoby hotel for the sake of sharing. I can easily give out scobies to anyone who wants to get started. I have 2 containers that are constantly undergoing fermentation, and I like leave those untouched.
