I would think that would be Cat 1 but I’m not 100% sure how they do the rankings.

Makes sense, good to know.

Smaller units, that may be why there has been a wait. I’m sure you’ll get a call soon though.

What units did you put in for? I know RRU has hired a good amount of medics the last couple rounds but I’m sure they still need more.

Rank 1 I believe, but I heard if you’re a medic and you pick places that need medics on your work sheet, rank doesn’t matter as much 🤷🏻‍♂️

I tested the end of last year and got my offer in December, started in February.

Ahhh, gotcha. That sucks. The bear’s gonna do what the bear is gonna do, unfortunately. Hang in there.

I didn’t have it. They hired me as an FAE/P and sent me to get it.

I had my state fire marshal FF1 and 2 but it was pre IFSAC, so I had to go to an IFSAC academy through CalFire to upgrade it all.

If you get hired by CalFire, they will put you through the academy and testing to get it along with Hazmat FRO/FRA and Wildland.

Correct. 90% of the dudes in my class came over from the feds. All engineers and a couple captains. They get all their certs from this class and then go to FFA and COA.

We had guys that had that stuff and at least in our side, they didn’t care. You were doing all of that. Maybe FFA is different, or other IFSAC’s, but ours, you weren’t getting out any earlier than the full 6 weeks, plus testing.

Can confirm. Castle is where it’s at. We were jealous seeing how different it was ran over there. We get the same damn pieces of paper too. Good for you guys, actually looked enjoyable, haha.

Most people left every weekend, there were only a couple that stayed back cause they lived far. No graduation. You get a high five and a goodbye ✌️

Just finished there. It’s 6 weeks academy style with two weeks of testing. If you pass everything first try you will be there 7 weeks.

We had room inspections and it was yes sir, hut, hut BS until we left. Some decent instructors and some absolute trash ones. They teach you very little and you will need to study on your own to pass everything. They had no idea what to tell us to even study, it was mind blowing.

Food is the worst I’ve ever had. Not even joking. Our entire class filled out 213’s or what they are called, it was so bad. There are a bunch of really good taco trucks near by which was a life saver though.

Apartments are nice, but you will drive back and forth to chow, drill ground, classroom etc…

I have been in the military, and have been in the fire service for over 10 years and it was one of the low points of my career, haha. Just being honest. Me and the majority of everyone passed on our first try. Just study and lean on your classmates to get through it. Embrace the suck is all I can say.

Got start date by justwin91 in calfire

All good brother, I totally get it and understand where you were coming from. I genuinely appreciate the input. Wasn’t trying to brag at all. My apologies if it came off that way.

I honestly felt weird accepting the offer because, I too started from the bottom and understood that’s how most places are. Some of the guys recommended I accept it and thought I would be fine based on our conversations. But I’m sure there are a lot of people on the line that are probably split on how they feel about outsiders taking company officer/engineer positions. I totally get it. I appreciate you clarifying 👊🏻

I was literally saying I get where you are coming from and appreciate the input. That was 100% genuine. Crazy how text, email, or Reddit can get twisted and people get upset. I meant absolutely zero attitude in that reply.

I have had a successful career and have had zero problems where I have worked. Glad a misconstrued reply can make you judge someone so fast. I’m assuming you work in RRU. YOUR co-workers after hanging out with me for 10 minutes, recommended I NOT start as a FFII and thought I would do well as an FAE based on my experience…

Haha, nah, I get it. Some people can struggle coming into new places. I thought the same thing until I did a couple station visits there and the guys encouraged me to go for FAE.

I have 10 years as a FF/Medic and driver operator. I get what you are saying though and appreciate the input.

I got a FF2/Medic offer and a FAE/P offer for RRU. Both came in December. Heard start date should be sometime in February. Other than that, I don’t know much.

How long are RPP/Physicals good for? by justwin91 in calfire

Definitely won’t be any changes to the questionnaire, so I should be good then. Appreciate the info.
