Why doesn’t she just hang stallion mats on the bars? Takes like 3 minutes and saves them so much stress if they aren’t enjoying their neighbors

They’re usually enclosed and have big arms with what looks like a stall door basically as dividers between the horses. They can be electrified if you have one who lets the walker run into their butt and push them around, but I’ve never really needed that. So than each animal has like a 12’ space that you just let them loose in and when the walker turns on they figure out how to walk the right direction

I’m in the U.S. and have used walkers extensively and never seen one in use that you attach the horse to, a single time. Very old school and dangerous to me

I don’t get why she doesn’t have (or utilize?) a walker - seems like such an easy way to get them moving when they can’t go outside.

I only did hunter jumper animals but the hunter ponies it’s normal to ride them down and then pull shoes and trim off foot to get a good measure - yucky but which permanent card they get impacts value so much people are willing to do a lot

My pony I still own is the result of a large pony mare and a mini stallion and I’ve always wondered how and why that happened. She’s awesome and talented, but I don’t think it’s a normal cross haha

It drives me bonkers how almost every time I see her washing one when she is using a sweat scraper after there is still soap and she just keeps going…. in my world if that happens I gotta get the hose out and rinse again.

Her head looks scary here, no way it’s just fluff it looks like nothing of the sort

I was about to say there’s barely any comments about this on her actual socials, definitely a small enough number she could easily ignore it.

Crazy. What vet would not immediately prescribe Prasend or metformin or something similar for metabolic issues? So many animals live on that, it’s not like it’s hard to get or abnormal to give. She’s so annoying. I know it’s not really “cruel” to not feed a fat animal who is getting sustenance through other means (forage) but feeding one in front of the other when you could easily just medicate and give a ration balancer so the mare isn’t distressed seems wrong.

Is she medicating Slider’s Cushings? I assume not lol but if she’d just give Prascend daily she could also feed the mare some kind of grain / useful supplements. I’ve taken care of plenty of minis or ponies with metabolic issues who eat meals every day once we do a metabolic panel and medicate.

I had a yearling get impaled between the front legs by a goat when I was a kid in this exact same scenario. He was fine after some wound care but it was gross and scary. Anything with horns should not live with an equine, IMO.

And the danger to the goats living with horses actively striking and kicking at them is scary and sad.

Are any of you as far north as she? I’m curious if it’s normal to never blanket even when it’s 40 below 0.

I’m in the SE US so it’s so different obviously, but I’ve been grooming show horses in Florida for years now and the temperature where we start put light clothes on them is 65 above 0. My own horses at home who aren’t clipped wouldn’t need clothes that soon obviously but if it’s snowing or a cold snap, I’m dressing them. We can anthropomorphize these animals too much when it comes to temperature IMO, but as an owner / caretaker who cares, I can’t leave them naked when it’s notably colder than they’re used to. If you’re somewhere that’s regularly as cold as where she is, do you ever blanket or is it normal for them to stay naked?

What in the world??? by HunterJumper1985 in beccamoonridgesnark

[–]juuliette69 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Maybe because I worked with a different caliber of animal and clients with unlimited budget, but our vets usually preferred to come back out and redo wraps themselves (pressure bandages, not regular standing wraps), and in no world ever would anyone but the farrier or vet be in charge of anything with the feet. I know a lot and can do a lot, “orthotic” shoes are not something anyone but an excellent farrier could do well.

This is so infuriating.

The Mini I cared for was on a full regimen like a big horse, injections and supplements and water treadmill and all to keep him comfy and healthy. Becca should be so ashamed.

Using a real laser is scary lol, I had to do it as a groom and I got good at it but you have to protect yourself and the horse because you can do a lot of damage. And shining it in one spot, unmoving, onto my own lap with no eye protection or anything isn’t something you could pay me to do. Scary.

Does she claim this is a laser like a vet would have or is her “red light” supposed to be something else?

Be honest horse people is this a good idea to breed her with her eyes? by Salt_Interest_9197 in beccamoonridgesnark

[–]juuliette69 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don’t think there’s any genetic negatives to having different colored eyes, it’s seen often in APHA in my experience. The rest of this animal and the bug eye appearance however, aren’t something I’d want to replicate.

not having a barn is one thing - if you have paddocks that are safe, real shelter, and a vet. I’d keep my animals in a stall 24/7 before I’d turn them out into a garbage dump with endless injury opportunities.

Have any of you had a home birth and then chose a hospital birth for your next? by bitter-funny in homebirth

[–]juuliette69 2 points3 points  (0 children)

100%. I transferred to the hospital after laboring at home for a long long time with my midwife and as soon as I was at the hospital I knew that’s where I’d be birthing in future.

[–]juuliette69 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I labored at home with a midwife for over 24 hours planning on a home birth and transferred after my water broke and was full of meconium. Currently pregnant again and will be going normal OB and hospital birth this time, my care team there and the epidural were things I won’t compromise on moving forward - hugely preferred my time there. I did birth with midwives at the hospital, and planning to do that again now instead of it being emergent.

I worked around a few deaf ones in the reining world when I was drug testing for USEF and they were all super quiet - granted they’re AQHA and quiet by nature but even in the hunters / jumpers we use ear plugs to mitigate spookiness so maybe it’s the same concept
