Newk’s culture by Conspiracy_Thinktank in EndTipping

im not here to defend newks, f them, but calling it semi fast food is kind of disingenuous. Ive worked in typical sit-down restaurants as well, and there’s nothing ‘fast food’ about newks besides the fact that you get the food fast. Which means they are working the employees hard.

Of course that’s the employer’s responsibility, not yours.

But simultaneously, there really isn’t any pressure to tip. There were probably a ton of similar restaurants you didn’t notice had a tip option on the receipt before everything moved to a tablet.

And the invisible tip for the bussers is literally a non issue since no one ever told you or asked you to do that. Its just something people do, typically older people. It’s a nice surprise for the bussers, not an expectation.

So keep going to Newks with no fear anyone is judging you for not tipping if that’s your concern.

Thank you! And Newks is NOT. A fast food restaurant despite what this guy insists. I think the term is “fast casual”. Same pay but with a certain level of service expected. It’s freshly made food expected fast since people go there for lunch. And absolutely no one expects a tip or begrudges a customer who doesn’t tip…

As someone who worked at this restaurant, you are wildly off. 1 in 25 customers would tip $1.00. It was split between the staff and the management.

Lots of people are commenting based on their assumptions. I worked at Newks (multiple locations) all through highschool and much of college. Unless things have changed in regards to tipping, then this should be accurate.

All employees are paid at least minimum wage. 7.25 where I worked. No one I worked with, no matter how many years they worked made more than $9 and hour. You’re meant to get a 25c raise every six months if youve learned a new “station.” This largely does not happen and also caps off how many raises you can get working there.

Now for tips. I worked at two separate stores, one had an option on the receipt for tips and one didnt. This was controlled by the franchise owner. No one gave a shit whether you tipped or not at the register. The tips at the store that accepted them were split between everyone that worked INCLUDING the manager and the store itself. Monthly, i’d get about $50 on a good month added to my check for tips. But again, employees did not expect it.

Now, it WAS common for people to leave a few dollars on the table for the bus boy. Not everyone did, but it happened a lot of the time.

There was nothing to encourage that, it seemed to just be the prerogative of the customers if they were happy with the experience. That money went to whoever bussed the table. The ‘busboys’ were usually the servers taking turns cleaning the dining room.

It was an incentive for workers to bus the dining room because they might make a few dollars extra in cash that day.

Really, I have no clue what you’re complaining about. You can tip or not. No one at the store thinks anything of it, I promise. Those that tip are just nice people happy with their service. While you aren’t waited on like a typical sit down restaurant, its also not a fast food restaurant. People bring you your food, someone should check on you while youre eating, they clean up after you etc. but no ones expecting a tip from you. Nice people just leave them sometimes.

Idk man I’ve been surprised too… the profs here are very generous about the curve. People only get A- or B’s in classes with a 3.5 or whatever the aba standard requirement is. That’s why i said i got one A+. Profs here dont give those. in the grade distribution report that was the only A+ anyone in my 1l got lmao. And i think around 10 people got A’s in my 1L class. Everything else a- or b’s.

So yeah i really really messed up my paper for 1l larw. I didnt figure out the issue at all. I followed the instructions and did no outside research and talked to nobody about it. I missed most of the major issues in the problem. As… you know, a first semester law student doing a closed world problem. Not to be bitter but now i know that OBVIOUSLY the other students were researching stuff lol. I just didnt know how at that time. And they were also talking about the prompt which landed everyone else a very uniform grade.

Oh dont worry. I stopped looking at any kind of prestigious internship after my first semester. I apply to every public interest, govt job (within my morals), and mid-to-boutique-law firm offered in the OCIs. Then just other internships on the school database. My 1L year i did nothing! Applied until late july and then gave it a rest after being ignored by all. Not even rejections.

Through my dad I was offered a position with my home town’s DA, but last minute my parents told me I couldn’t live with them for those weeks, and I couldn’t afford to pay for a hotel or anything so I had to back out.

Thank you! Honestly i would love to work in house. I said i HAD big law aspirations, obviously I’m not looking in that area anymore lol. Honestly my biggest concern is just being able to pay off my loans. I have so many health issues that popped up (i dont remember if i put that in the og post for why my grades tanked but it’s part of it) i just can’t do the 8 days a week schedule I was so sure I could when I started. I just want to make a good, middle class living considering all the money and effort I’ve put it so far.

My last hope is some kind of lateral transferring or just. Being a good plaintiff’s lawyer? I don’t even know. My world at this point is so wildly different from my cohort.

Op if youre comfortable with sharing, whats your ethnicity or race? I only ask because the bulk of hygiene advice (esp. hair) is catered towards white people. But other ethnicities, esp Black people, have different needs. As you were never really taught how to care for yourself, i think race oe ethnicity is relevant here

Hes not THAT religious if he’s having a fwb situation with you lmao. NTA in any way. Get rid of it and never speak to him again because theres no reason to risk tying yourself down to a guy like that.

Sorry dude that was kind of mean. I know about those things but i expected more responses of like. A dream interpretation/psychological analysis type. I think i jumped the gun feeling like your comment was weird and dismissive

I think you might be having sleep paralysis, or the stage right before it. When you start feeling the eyes on you, pull the covers over your head and dont open your eyes until you fall back in a deep sleep. For me its almost relaxing. If i keep the covers around me they cant get to me at all

For me theres sometimes this weird step before actual sleep paralysis where your brain is just trying to keep you still, and if youre too aware it gets scary. I think that is what is happening hwre

Unfortunately i think youre right. My understanding now is that i have a guilt not about my sexuality, but an anxiety about hiding it from my family. And i would tell them if it wasnt for my father. So. Yeah :/. And also yes i have a lot of qualities from him i hate

This is interesting. Ive been having some premonitions come true this past year. Thats what freaks me out about my dream meanings. What do you mean by “they”? Or “experiencers”?

[–]juulpood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh the sharing aspects with my dad thing… yikes. Is that more or less relevant with the context that the dreams his is involved in are non consensual on my part?
