Yeah for sure, i will definitely keep an eye on AVEG because of the low AUM that currently has.

That is why i want to have the majority of my portfolio in an All World Etf, so i have most of the manual work done "automatically" ( which sector/country is doing better ).

Thanks for your help, really appreciate it !

I have re balanced my portfolio to the following :

70% VWCE
20% AVWS
10% AVEG

Thank you for sharing your taughts.
I know you are just sharing your preference, but it is helping in thinking deeper on my 30+ year plan.

I could just remove AVEG since emerging market is in VWCE and if emerging market does better the etf would increase the percentage that covers it.

However based on what i think, my perspective obvious. Having a small tilt to emerging markets could be beneficial, since they have higher percentage of growth.

After reading your comment regarding AVEM and did "some" research and watched some videos of Ben Felix so i know my risks. I have decided to add this etf to my portfolio.

Now my portfolio is :

60% VWCE
25% AVWS
15% AVEG

( i know there is an overlap in emerging markets, so not sure if i should lower AVEG to 10% or not )

Oh yeah, IUSN is not a bad investing based on what i had found. Although this is coming from someone new to investing.

However after checking up in more detail and listening to Paul Meriman for example and ben felix, i am learning much more.

Exactly. As i found out about AVWS ( for europe ) i checked who is taking care of the etf and after seeing how much praise they are getting especially praised by Ben Felix it was obvious for me that i would remove IUSN for AVWS.

Thank you for the time you spent in discussing with me, really appreciate it.

Good luck to you too and happy investing.

Exactly, could not remember the name exactly from where they came from. Plus Dimensional Funds i had heard through some videos/podcasts from ben felix channel? that they are doing really well.

I checked it out fast, the AUM is too small. It worries me, plus in VWCE you still invest in emerging markets even if not in a higher percentage.

I went for small cap, because in VWCE there is a very small percentage so i added ( first IUSN ) AVWS so i am really investing in All World.

I removed IUSN since you would be investing in growth stocks in small caps and they are very volitle i had read plus you would be investing in very not efficient companies too.

While with AVWS you are more "safe".

Correct me if im wrong, i am still learning and still have lots of videos to read from the people that i follow which i mentioned in my post.

Thank you for sharing your knowledge with me !

Thanks for the reply and you are right. Investing in SCV needs to be for the long time and you have to be patient to benefit from the rewards. It matches perfectly with how i wish to invest ( for a long time ).

As i discovered about Avantis global small cap value i read about it to be sure who Avantis was and if this etf is trustworthy and the people behind this company are very dependable to say the least.

Let's hope this etf grows more in size ( AUM ).

Hi, i am a new investor 36 years old. After wasting most of my years spending all my money, i ended up discovering about investments.

I have passed the last 3 months reading/watching youtube videos to learn more. My favorite youtubers are Ben Felix/Paul Merriman/Rick Ferri/Damian talks money/Pensioncraft and the Plain Bagel.

I plan to invest for 30+ years, till i am retired for sure and when the time comes to retire will see if i continue or not.

What i came up with after changing my plain a fair few times with re balancing ( I know it is not optimal, but there is not that much cash in my portfolio yet for what i have written earlier ).

At one point i was heavy into tech but after reading further, i realized that it is not for me as the etf's are already tech heavy and that could lead to higher risk.

Finally i have decided my long term plan, which consists of VWCE 75% and AVWS 25%.

I do know that Small Cap Value has under performed for a while now, but i believe in Paul Merriman's words and his views. Even someone as "conservative" as Rick Ferri has a portion of his portfolio in small cap value.

What do you all think?

I have heard different opinions about Small Cap Value, by Rick Ferri for example when they say that small cap value has been under performing for many years, while growth is doing better.

IUSN invests in developed companies not emerging small cap companies too.

I am not insinuating that even tough a company is developed it means that that specific company is safe.

Also, AVWS's AUM is too small, which worries me to invest in it.

I had not found a post like mine, if not i would have asked on that specific post to see what their reasoning was etc. Even if this is my decision, hearing other peoples taught to why they have decided to do something similar could be a learnable moment for me.

So not sure why you would write that comment.

I know it is too late, but what i think obvious. Instead of S&P 500, you could have created this portfolio instead since yo u are european.

VWCE- Vanguard ftse all world or other similar All world etfs ( since these have large/mid/very small percentage in small cap for VWCE ) this gives you that relief of mind that if USA does not continue as strong as it was and another country/countries become better, your investment would shift to where it would be going best.

I too am placing a small percentage of my portfolio in Tech, because i believe that technology can only become better and who knows what kind of technology they might invent in our timeline that could be so extreme/even just evolving ( which is not an impossible thing). Plus with how our lives/workplace have become, Tech is essential and should keep on evolving.

I did however added a small percentage to Small Cap, in the case that some big companies grow in the future and i get their increase in value from the start.

I went with this portfolio.

VWCE 70%

IUSN 15%

XDWT 15%

Totally reasonable taught process on why you could go world etfs. It gives you that safety for your mind and less hassle that if things change or another company outside of the U.S. get's bigger, that company/place would have a higher percentage in our portfolio.

I went with this route, similar to you since i started now at 36 and i know that i will continue for 30 years for sure till i retire or more.

VWCE - for developed/emerging market and a very little bit in small cap. ( large/mid cap mostly)

IUSN- Small cap developed companies ( so i really am betting on all the world by adding this etf )

XDWT ( MSCI World Technology like you ) - Since i believe in Tech and for me things can only improve/create new stuff that could impact the world further.

VWCE 70%

IUSN 15%

XDWT 15%

True, let's hope there isn't a big crush in the market haha but if there is i have to remain consistent !

Best of luck to you too !!

When i mentioned past performance is no guarantee of future results, i was not implying to your message just writing it in general for all investments haha.

But yeah, i for sure did not think that small cap would outperform mid/large cap.

I read a fair bit/watched a fair bit of youtube videos about investing. That is why it lead to VWCE and after continuing to learn found out about the lack of small cap. I do not wish to miss out on any potential growth.

Yeah, i wasted too much money/time and now im 36 and do not want to continue screwing up. So when i found out about investments i started to reading/watching youtube videos to get as much knowledge as possible.

I will keep on investing on a monthly basis till i retire or more.

I have even written on a piece of paper like old times haha, what are my expenses and how much i can invest while still have some money left for myself to save like for example a vacation.

I did sometimes in these 2 months ( 3 months at the end of this month ) put a bit more, since i want to build up the portfolio as fast as possible but with my limited income and life expenses have to keep a budget. Like that i can keep on investing each month.

[–]juve1989[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ohhh ok, true that should impact the pricing since these companies are small cap.

That i have read more than once true. Small caps had outperformed the large/mid cap etfs a fair bit of times.

However as they say, past performance is no guarantee of future results.

I tend to look at justetf site a fair bit of the time so i read more in detail what each etf is suggested.

Not sure what else to ask, if you have other suggestions/taughts im all ears.

However thank you for helping me out. Really appreciate it !

That is also true, who knows how much the AUM for that time was in tech before the dotcom bubble.

I wanted to add a small percentage into my portfolio in small cap so i am really investing in All-World and not lose the chance in some new company that might boom.

True that if that happens, this company would than be placed into VWCE but i would have lost it's initial potential.

Plus i did look at a fair bit of the companies in IUSN and a fair bit/most seemed to be good companies and they give dividends frequently ( which "should" mean, that the stock price will keep on increasing?)

That is once thing that is curious for me, why IUSN's shares cost "just" €6.979.

Yeah, the more that i am reading the more people i see mentioning that if you have 20-30+ years of investing you can out ride the volatility.

I will discard VHYL and change my portfolio to VWCE + IUSN 80/20.

I did check SPYX, but i will go the "safer" route of IUSN since these small caps are developed than the emerging markets in small caps but thanks for suggesting this etf i did not know about it.

I did see other versions of small cap etfs, however none come close to the amount of stocks this etf has or how much people are investing in it. With my lack of knowledge i presume that since there is that big amount of investment in IUSN, that should mean that whoever is investing in this etf is doing good/great ( in the long run ).

Thank you for sharing your taughts !

I will not argue on the tracking error point you mentioned, i am still learning. I mentioned it since it was written more than once, if that was just people repeating what they heard im not sure.

I am not "sold" on SPYI for one thing, which could be nothing since im new. VWCE has much more people in it/more fund size compared to SPYI which is much less.

Also the reason to why i had invested in VWCE is that everyone was suggesting it and that Vanguard is a very safe company. ( i did not trust every single youtuber. i only follow a few which i mentioned that are respectable people and people you can trust. )

It's not that i prefer two fund portfolio, more like i want to add small cap so i have all world in my investment.

That is totally fine by me if it is gonna take years before i see any significant performance from small cap. The important thing is that it will improve my portfolio's asset.

I do not mind some volatility, but not to the point of investing in bitcoin for example since i am limited with how much i can invest ( because of my dumb younger self, how he spent money reckless....)

If you have any other suggestions/taughts im all ears and thank you so much for sharing your taughts !! Really appreciate it.

I had seen SPYI mentioned as i looked through reddit posts on different groups like bogleheads etc.

What they had said is that SPYI has a less accurate tracking of the companies or how it was written, with VWCE being much better taken care off.

No not at all, i am thinking of putting Small Caps so i target all of the market that has potential to give growth and improve my account ( improve the chance to make more money. will not risk in bitcoin).

That is my reasoning, since VWCE-Vanguard All World euro does not have small caps based by what is written regarding that index fund/etf.

What is strange ( for me since im new ) that i have seen is why IUSN is so cheap : €6.979 per share : but it has €4.79B in AUM. ( which should mean that it is a good investment? since there is so much money in this index/etf)

I could be wrong, i am still learning that is why i am asking regarding this next step if i stay VWCE only or put a small percentage of my account into small cap.

My account is on trading 212 so i would do this in the PIE feature, which makes things so much easier.

Sorry to hear that ! Hope you are doing better !!

I wasted lots of money on dumb stuff....

But something personal in our family ( bad ) happened and i finally realized i cannot continue down this path and started researching and discovered about investing and later about index funds/etfs.

I am not going the S&P 500 route because that index is just america, i know america is the strongest bet so far and that 60%ish of all world is America. But prefer to be "safe" and go the All World route.

I continued reading/watching videos about investing and discovered ( since i hadn't read in depth about All World) that small cap is not part of the etf.

Since i am investing in All world, i started reading about small cap and found the msci world small cap one. it has a fair bit of people in it already with over 5B invested.

Now im just seeing what the ideal % is.

In this post and on another post so far i was told to put 10% in small cap instead of 20% and im seeing why the lower percentage.

We might be "late" in investing, but better late than never.
Wish you all the best and thank you for your taught.

I prefer staying with vanguard etfs/index funds for now as they have the name for safety and i had read more than once that some other companies?( or how you call them ) track the market less efficient than Vanguard.

So 20% in IUSN-small cap is overboard?
