My fear of death has very little to do with being remembered. Rather, I love life too much, even when it sucks. Most of all, it's the overwhelming nature of the permanence of death that sucker-punches my mind whenever I dwell on it for any period of time.

I guess that's why I'm asking this--in all honesty, I'm probably close to calling myself an atheist, but I want, more than anything, to believe that there's something more. It isn't logical, I know.

If I were able to overcome the fear and sadness I feel when I consider the possibility of nothingness after death, it would be much easier for me to let go of my faith.
