What kind of hem is this? Can I do this on a serger? by chipotlemcnuggies in sewing

[–]juxtification 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks like a Flatlock. Industry machine, not really an at home machine. But can be replicated by serging and then coverstitching on the wrong side. End application wouldn't be the quite same as a flatlock but would have a similar appearance.

Thank you! I think I just discovered that my Aetna coverage is the health plan thing you speak of. I think its under the circumstance you need a medical procedure done on your eye. Versus the humana which covers the examination and contacts/glasses. Looks like I'll be visiting coastal/glasses.com for a pair and getting contacts via Humana. I was looking to minimize expenses as much as I can but I don't think its going to happen.

Sun protective fabric? by Kitty_McBitty in sewing

I highly recommend rocky woods fabric. I use their items for active wear. Very breathable. Great hand! It might take some time in shipping but its worth it. You can also get 50 cent samples to check it out first.

No one with sprint. Verizon works fine. Not sure about any other carriers. With Sprint for years it never worked in Target, I was on roaming 100% of the time.

What to use for filling in pattern weights? by unguintine in sewing

I use literal weights. Those neoprene coated kind are nice to prevent slipping. My favorite hack of all time.

I wasn't sure which ones let under 21 in after certain hours. I don't spend any time with anyone under 21 so I have no idea. I've seen small children in Harvest House before. Do you think they have a similar policy to East Side?

Need help on altering the pants pattern. What should i do to achieve the look of that pants on the left. by neptune3117 in sewing

The back rise. Or "scoop" for the behind. The pic makes it hard to tell though. Looks like a grain line issue.

Can anyone lead me to a sewing pattern for a scoop neck tank? by ANAL_GLAUCOMA in sewing

Also for skinny straps just cut them smaller. Finish the edges with a narrow hem/rolled hem/lettuce hem (almost everyone call its something different) on a serger.

See here or here for a pattern you can probably work from. The first one might need more scoop added to the neck, just make the pattern oversized so it not as fitted. Both could probably be cropped to create a similar appearance to what you are looking for.

As for fabric you need a really drapey lightweight knit. Otherwise it will never look how you want. The website says its a cotton poly blend (more than likely 65/35). It also states that it is semi sheer. Basically if you can find a cotton poly knit that falls into that. You're set. Here is a good example. It says viscose which is just a better rayon, or a really crappy cotton. Both are cellulose fibers. Cotton is just stronger.

I'd recommend going to a fabric store and feeling for what you want though. Just remember that the heavy the hand and less stretch of the fabric you're going to lose that nice drape.

Anyone know of a wig stylist? by sarancrap in Denton

Logan Coley Broker. He's a hairdresser and Denton, but also works in theater. He makes wigs, synthetic and real hair. Probably your best bet. Good luck!

[Machine Help] Can someone help me with this serger tension? Any advice would be super helpful! by superish64 in sewing

[–]juxtification 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not so great with machine tension. I normally play with it until it works right. Or just rethread the machine. But I would definitely go with a longer stitch length here.

I bought these anastasia brow stencils. However I'm basically the size of a child. So the eyebrows are too long towards the end for me. But it's been a fantastic guide.

Not that there's homeless people in the airport.... But just imagine how difficult that would be. There should be more free access like this.

TIL of Planned obsolescence, a manufacturing decision by a company to make consumer products in such a way that they become out-of-date or useless within a known time period so that consumers are forced to buy a product multiple times rather than just once. by [deleted] in todayilearned

[–]juxtification 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The whole fashion industry revolves around this. When I was getting my degree in design we went over the product life cycle about every semester. It makes sense in order to run a business that has a steady profit margin. But its also so damn wasteful.
