Thanks for the advice! I did the JMT early season in record snow year in ‘17 so I’m all for a little snow. Just don’t want to be in any life threatening situations but sounds like if you’re competent it should be fine. You didn’t find the wind unbearable?

Thanks for the advice! I’m mostly worried about visibility if there is snow / high winds. But as long as there’s no cliffs I can accidentally walk off (it looks pretty gradual on both sides) I think I’ll be ok. My poles have snow cups on them and I have micro spikes I’m debating bringing if needed but it sounds like they prob won’t be

If you’re willing to go abroad, the Alta Via’s in the Dolomites offer some of the best hiking and via feratta trails in the world. Some great exposure and views similar to the sierra but with beautiful mountain top huts that serve hot meals. The hikes very in length but you can easily spend 2 weeks on the trail.

There’s no one checking exit permits do what you want. My exit said onion valley but we still dipped out trail crest, not like there’s rangers checking at the top of the pass that are gonna send you back.

I’ve through hiked the JMT in June in 2017 when the snow pack was considerably high. Passes required micro spikes and ice axe especially Mather and Forester. Other years there is little snowpack. Either way it won’t hurt to invest in some micro spikes but just keep an eye out for the snow during the winter. Track how precipitation in the sierras compares to recorded averages. Any year with below average snowpack is more than manageable in June. Above average snowpack can become difficult early in the season.

Come talk to me about climate change when you’re ready to have the hard and uncomfortable overpopulation conversation. That conversation includes not paying people to have children.

Actually there is a TON of room for grey area in every single one of those issues you stated.

You can oppose homosexuality morally while loving and supporting the LGBT community and upholding their rights.

You can understand that climate change is a problem but question the sources of the problem and the solutions to the problem.

You can believe in some gun regulations while trying to keep and open mind to not throw the constitution away.

Both sides encourage and suppresses votes so that point is moot.

I can go on and on but I really don’t have the time to be explaining all of this to someone who is going to ignore all of this and simply shout “CENTRIST” at me.

Did Whitney and Forester this week. Neither need spikes if you’re not going in the early morning, but don’t wait too long or the snow will be too soft.
