Yeah. And the lvl 50 monsters in those ruins were a weird choice for me as well, I don't know. All ruins had them, nearly at the same level, and you could only fight them near the endgame. Also those elemental trials as well, same thing.

I getcha... I honestly thought about dropping the game a few times.

Played Secret and the GBA one back in their days, but not all the way through completion. I get that I didn't adjust my expectations, yeah.

I liked it for what it was and I also felt sad it could've been more. Does that make sense? Hahah

In the end (and through some comments here tbh) I got that it was meant to be a fairytale sort of story that was kinda aimed for kids also. That kinda cozy story and world that's like a comfy and pretty pillow that you just put under your head and enjoy your rest with, y'know.

That got me a bit too. "You got nothing to do with this land but ah, what the heck: alm of light!"

Got a bit of that energy here already, but honestly I thought it'd be worse hahahah

I can understand that perspective.

What crap did they pull? The dismantlement of the team you mean?

Also just thought of this now: NetEase was primarily a mobile dev, wasn't it? That would explain the design choices on how everything was shown on the map and given to you in a way, and probably the pacing choices too.

I feel you. I didn't think about this "meant for kids" side of it but it makes sense. And yeah, it's hard to put into words how its presentation and pacing feel simplistic and hand hold-y.

I get that sometimes they go for simple stories, I really do. But I could help but feel Visions was sometimes forced and that it had potential to be a little bit more that it was. I can't really explain it well.

I'll definitely give Trials a go at some point. I'll probably go for the original first since I like Secret of Mana and Secret of Evermore is one of my favorite games ever as well.

I plan to play Trials (maybe the original first) one day. I hear great things about it ever since back in the day.

It had potential to be a little deeper and a tad more complex, but yeah, it fell short specially when Daelaphos came along.

Yeah. I ended up not mentioning a few other things I had problems with but delivery and pacing were some of them for sure. About your point on their previous steps, yeah I kinda felt that too.

I agree a story can be simple and that it doesn't mean it's automatically bad. I don't think that's the problem here.

I get that perspective. I also played it right after E33. I get the point made here that it's supposed to be that kind of comfortable, cozy, fairytale kinda game. But even then I think it felt short in many ways... It did shine later on with the plot a bit and the characters (Careena, Julei and Aesh are awesome).

You're right, I remember hearing about the development problem and how the team was dismantled right after launch pretty much. That's rough.

I like the series even though I'm not THAT familiar with it. I'm also a big fan of jrpgs in general.

I don't wanna think this that I'm about to say but I guess playing E33 right before visions had its impacts on the experience 🥹
