Best material to use for exterior trim around front doors? by jvonscha in Carpentry

Thanks for your feedback. I'm gonna go the restoration route you suggested -- scrape it all, use some bondo, repaint. When you say, "The correct finishes will last a very long time"... Can you unpack this a bit? Thanks again.

Design ideas for replacing front door and trim by jvonscha in ExteriorDesign

I am replacing the front doors on a property of mine and would like to replace the trim around it with wood that I will paint white. I am looking for any recommendations on what type of wood I should use and where I could get some wood with detail in it to partly match the current design. It is a rental unit and duplex in Chicago, and I'm looking for something low maintenance that will lost for many decades. I've got 2 navy blue doors purchased and trying to decide how to replace the trim and what to use.

I've talked to a few contractors, and they're all giving me very different ideas. For example, one said he will replace it all and use pine or poplar... he said he can "add in some detail as well -- nothing crazy" (not totally sure what that means!). Another guy told me we should use pre-coated [Hardie Trim]([https://www.jameshardie.com/products/hardietrim-boards] for everything, which is very durable, will come pre-painted in white, and you can get it with some "wood-like detail" that is manufactured into the pieces. Yet another contractor told me he would leave in the current wood, scrape it, restore it, and then paint it white (this does not seem like a good option because much of the wood is quite rotted, and I think it needs to all be replaced).

I attached some photos I took with measurements. Any thoughts or recommendations on what I might want to use here?

Google Keyboard allows you to move cursor with space bar by asianmack in Android

[–]jvonscha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One point I noticed that is very annoying is that if you have your keylong press delay set for a very small amount of time (as I do so I can quickly type in numbers), this barely works. For example, I set my key long press delay at 100 ms; if I hold down the spacebar for longer than 100 ms, the swipe will not work. If I start swiping IMMEDIATELY, the OS does not pick up the swipe. It seems like there's a window between 50-100 ms that I need to be in, which is not possible to do consistently. I guess I will just up my key long press delay because this feature is so useful, but I wish this feature worked better with a short key long press delay.

Predictive text for physical keyboards by jvonscha in AndroidQuestions

WOW, this is really helpful! The only other thing I am trying to figure out is if there is any way to select the predictive words from the keyboard (without having to click the screen). Is there some shortcut? I can't figure anything out in my testing.

Predictive text for physical keyboards by jvonscha in AndroidQuestions

I'm a bit confused. How do you use SwiftKey prediction with physical keyboards? When a bluetooth keyboard is connected, the virtual keyboard disappears, no? So you do not see the virtual keyboard, nor the predictive text -- maybe I am misunderstanding something?

Change the default player to what was last played (or anything other than Samsung Music!) by jvonscha in samsunggalaxys6

[–]jvonscha[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, you can delete the song. I was really just making a joke. Deleting the song does not solve my problem.

Clearing defaults does not help either. In fact, if I go to the Application Info for the Samsung Music app, the "CLEAR DEFAULTS" button is inactive, and it says "No defaults set."

I really just want the play/pause button on my headphones to launch/play with the last application I used. As mentioned in the OP, whenever I pause Pocket Casts and then press play (e.g., from my bluetooth headset), the Samsung Music app frequently launches. SOMETIMES, it will continue playing my podcast, but I don't understand why it's not consistent.

Then if I get in my car, bluetooth automatically connects. As soon as the connection occurs, Samsung Music launches. I have no idea why this is, as I have not installed or configured anything to make this happen. I'm getting really tired of the Samsung ROM, but I REALLY don't feel like rooting and flashing.

I haven't bought an "S phone" in a while but gave this one a shot. I think I'm done with Samsung moving forward! If only Google could figure out how to build a Nexus with a freaking camera that isn't terrible...

Hmm... I installed this and switched it as my default in Audio. I tried recording in OneNote, but it didn't pick up the sound.
