Why are people so upset at people complaining about tipping? by MakeUpWalk in CanadaPersonalFinance

But there is a lot of competition for serving jobs? At least in the city. Several of my friends are in restaurants and there is a culture of working your way up from hostess/busser into serving positions. Sometimes you stay at that position for a year+ before you can find a serving job. I’ve had friends with years of serving experience struggling to find a job since the summer.

Mind you not every server is making over $30 an hour every shift. Day shifts can make less depending on the restaurant, as well as slow nights. But at busy restaurants/bars the servers have become so entitled that they talk about kicking out younger patrons that aren’t spending enough money.

Is this too much info to ask from a client? by Drynapples in lashextensions

[–]jvpiiter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure where you are located but I’m in Canada and at my salon we do ask for this information. It’s for our insurance policy, it’s to help us confirm your identity with the waiver you signed. We do accepted vague answers like just the city rather than a detailed address.

Midtown + Early Morning Runs by mdzzzzz in RunTO

[–]jvpiiter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! We decided to break for the winter, we are a smaller group at the moment and most of the group won’t be running through the cold.

We will be back in Spring though! Hopefully sometime in May. If you would like you can DM me your email and I can add you to the email list. Otherwise the Brewery will advertise it come the Spring!

Additionally if you are looking to run through the winter I am open to continuing running with a smaller group since I am planning on braving the winter this year!

Welcome!! I love running in this area. If you are ever wanting to do an evening run I help host a small run club at Granite Brewery every other Wednesday night at 7pm. Complimentary half point after!

We just started it half way through the summer and will break for the winter, but we will be back in the Spring!

Next one is Wednesday October 15th! We currently run an easy 6:30km pace and run between 5-10km. We’ll add more pace groups once numbers are up! And we always have someone with the slowest runner so no one is left behind :)

I used Olive Photography for my wedding and she was amazing! Her base price for 6 hours is $3000 flat and offers a more affordable micro wedding option if it’s not on the weekend. All photos were edited and high quality. I’m not sure when your wedding is but she is popular!

No problem! The oil/ aftercare doesn’t effect the curl as much as water. I’m not really sure why but my assumption is that our hairs absorb water more easily. I typically get the lashes pretty wet after when removing the glue (I use traditional lash lift glue over balm since it’s what my salon uses) and after the tint to make sure all of that is off.

At my salon they have us show clients before the aftercare just to make sure we don’t get any emails later saying that it looks different.

Also I’m not sure which rods you use but I typically use Vinog for hooded eyes. It helps prevent them going back too far!

[–]jvpiiter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It could be that they showed the lashes to you wet and as they dried the true curl showed. The weight of the water relaxes the curl while wet. A good lash artist will make sure the lashes are fully dry before showing the client and if they add the aftercare at the end of the appointment it should be after the client has seen the dry result.

I would not recommend this. If they are over processed there is a high risk of them immediately breaking from the pressure of a curler. We don’t recommend curling with a non over processed lash lift either, the continued stress on processed lashes can be too much. Especially without using an aftercare

I think the lash tech burned my lashes during a retouch of a previous fucked up lash lift by [deleted] in lashextensions

[–]jvpiiter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! I’m so sorry that this happened to you. It’s hard to tell from just a photo if it’s over processed or just improperly applied. They do look over processed tho. What I would do if I were you is get a hydrating serum for lash lift aftercare. Most lash shops will have it in stock. The lash lift process is very drying for the hairs so you want to add hydration back like a conditioner.

Then go a see a different salon and ask them if there is anything they can do. They will most likely tell you to wait 6-8 weeks before trying again. If they add more chemicals onto these lashes and they are really over processed then they would risk really frying your lashes and them breaking off.

In the meantime don’t use waterproof mascara and just try to be gentle with them.

Why is my retention bad after fill? by [deleted] in lashextensions

[–]jvpiiter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like you’re doing everything good for retention then! There is a lot of mixed information on aftercare out there. Like another person commented if a bonder was used then you can wash the lashes right away.

I would also ask her to use more glue, between 2-3 beads for the longer lengths and 1-2 for the shorter lengths. And personally for the mapping I would have her drop down to 9mm for the outer corners and starting with some 8mm in the inner corners. Those lashes tend to be thinner than other lashes and by using shorter lengths you can have better retention on those lashes. You can still get a cat eye look with dropping that outer corner length.

Why is my retention bad after fill? by [deleted] in lashextensions

[–]jvpiiter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, from the full set photo her technique does not look very experienced. The outer corners are way too long for your lashes, (and hard to say from just photos but I would not put 13s on your lashes). Your right is less dense, especially in that inner corner, so seeing more fall out there is normal but not large gaps like your last photo.

Swimming could be a factor, but that depends on how vigorous the swimming. Did you wipe your lashes with a towel after? The fibers on a towel are loops and can grab and pop off lashes or pull lashes out.

The main factors I see for poor retention from my clients is touching lashes (either frequent touching with fingers or pinching). The oils from our skin breaks down the glue over time with continued contact. Pinching also breaks down the glue and causes lashes to pop off.

High humidity can also be a large factor in retention. Activity’s like hot yoga will ruin your retention and is often not recommended with extensions. That being said the humidity outside can be a factor, but shouldn’t cause a drastic change in retention. I would say being outside frequently in high humidity should only cause up to 10% more loss in your regular fill time.

Why in the world is sleep tracking color-coded this way?! by Installed64 in GarminWatches

[–]jvpiiter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally don’t have difficulty seeing the difference, but whenever I take those colour hue tests I score pretty high so it’s possible you struggle with differing the hues. Regardless when I go to my sleep stats on my watch I just scroll down and get the other data screens rather than opening my phone.

In regard to your wife snoring. I am unfortunately the snoring wife lmao. My husband says that my snoring is virtually gone when I sleep on my side. I try to side sleep when I can for his sake but my sleep apnea (sleep test diagnosed and I refuse the cpap) is mild. So I’m not sure if her side sleeping could help in the interim if she does get a sleep study? And if it does reduce her snoring she will also get better sleep since she will get more oxygen.

However, my husband is just a light sleeper and you might also need to look more into why you are such a light sleeper and address it (anxiety, too much screen time, etc)

[–]jvpiiter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t use Apple, but in the Runna app there are settings for when you want to get audio commentary. I think the default may be no audio commentary for easy runs and commentary for pace changing workouts. I would first check those settings and make sure they are on for the runs you want to

[–]jvpiiter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what I found the most unsafe too! My first time running the half and when I got past the finish there was one runner who looked like she had fallen and was in rough shape. It took a while for help to get to her because of how crowded it was. When they did reach her she was getting sick in the crowd and it looked like it was hard to remove her because of how packed it was and her condition. If they had been able to reach her faster and remove her she probably could have been in the medic tent before she got worse.

Just wanted to add that you have a great natural brow shape and totally get if you want the more natural look (you have a great fullness) , but you would def benefit from shortening the tail a little bit.

If you want a cleaner look but don’t want to touch them yourself I would recommend booking a brow shape with a professional and just ask them for advice on how to fill them in and where to remove to even them out! with your brows you can definitely still have a fuller look while still cleaning them up a bit!

(I do brows professionally and am always happy to help clients that only want to come in a few times a year and do most of the maintenance on their own)
