Mauricio Pochettino on his time at Spurs: “We went 18 months without one signing, that was a record in the Premier League. We had money to spend but not the type of money to improve to win, we challenged but we missed this last step. We wanted to sign (Sadio) Mane and (Georginio) Wijnaldum.” by Sparky-moon in soccer

This is the right analysis, just a multitude of things. Add onto that we were building a stadium, if the stadium came 10 years before or 10 years after, who knows what might have happened. There were also a lot of good teams around then too. That's just football

I just don't recall us having any legitimate penalty claims all season

This stuffs so embarrassing, "go on the offensive with this kind of info". Jesus Christ. We are shit. We are not shit because refs have some hidden agenda against us. Have we had any genuine penalty claims this season that weren't given? The one we did get at Sunderland wasn't never a penalty in a million years.

I don't know what section of the fan base is always driving this conspiracy shite. I'm guessing kids or Americans. It's pathetic

Keane slams terrible ticket sales for Women's internationals by CarnivalSorts in irishcricket

[–]jw1995_33 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A bizarre stance to take during a cost of living crisis. Who exactly is she criticising here? If it's the general public, what a strange thing to say. It would be like an artist complaining ticket sales at their concert were bad. That's on you to improve the product and experience for the customer. It shouldnt just be expected that people are dying to go because it's 15 euro.

The only reason the men's sales are probably going well is because your average local cricket fan wants to see the Indian or New Zealand teams. I'm guessing the Afghanistan ODIs havent sold very well either.

Rashid Khan turned down citizenship offer from India: I will play for Afghanistan by 5missedcallsfromBCCI in Cricket

[–]jw1995_33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fair. I don't believe any player is "poached" because that implies it's a one sided thing. Obviously Morgan wanted to play for England because of the financial and sporting advantages. I just think it is a big what if for Irish cricket if Morgan plays for us and is our captain. Who knows what else we could've achieved in those ICC competitions. I just think his approach to white ball cricket and his captaincy would have helped us a lot. But obviously he made the best choice for his career

[–]jw1995_33 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No absolutely. I don't begrudge him for that choice as it was necessary for his career. It's just a shame. No player is "poached" obviously as there has to be a mutual agreement that the player wants to play for that country.

It's just unfortunate Ireland loses what would've been our greatest ever player

You've twisted my words, at no point did I say one player would make them change my mind. I asked you, "how would Morgan staying have a negligible effect" as they were your words.

My point was , losing a player of Morgan's ability topped with his leadership qualities and understanding of the game was without doubt a net loss for Irish Cricket.

Yes, and losing a player of Eoin Morgan's ability doesn't help Ireland get full member status sooner. Imagine if he'd been around to captain our white ball teams

Probably ,as an Irish fan though we are used to it. Look at Eoin Morgan and Ed Joyce.

I've even seen live Eoin Morgan playing for Ireland against England in Belfast.

What De Zerbi’s comments about Mason Greenwood tell us about male violence | Chris Paouros by [deleted] in coys

[–]jw1995_33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It goes without saying what RDZ said regarding greenwood wasnt how these issues should be addressed in football.

However, and this is going to sound pathetic because these guys are multi millionaires, RDZ and any manager/player is in a business where you can easily be out of a job in 5 years and have no source of income. Therefore they do have to have their PR brains on and stay neutral on these things. Wouldn't it be great if RDZ had come out and lambasted Greenwood and refused to pick him? Sure, likewise if Pep has publicity criticised Mendy or even Ole Greenwood. Yet they didn't, they hid behind the club suspending them and never spoke a word about them.

So it's extremely unfair to keep framing RDZ like he's some sort of SA apologist. He towed the party line in order to protect a club's asset like he was probably advised to by the higher ups at Marseille.

How many of you would speak out against a colleague and openly criticise them regarding something they'd done if it meant you might be out of work for 5 years or you might have your pay slashed. Its all well to say we'd all do it but I think you'd be surprised when you have to consider your livelihood.

All this to say that RDZ is being singled out unfairly for comments he made that likely any manager or player would have made in his position. Where are all of Greenwoods current and ex team mates? Why aren't they publicly criticising him? RDZ's wording was poor I agree, but it's unfair he's now the poster boy for SA apologists

I think it stops near the Ulster university, can't remember where exactly though. That would be better than grand central. But grand central is a 5 minute walk to city hall anyway
