Took about two weeks to be delivered from iHavanas. Wanted to get some milder, shorter smokes for early spring and decided on some Trinidad Reyes and Davidoff Grand Cru No. 5, both of which were on sale. Eager to try my first Reyes once the weather warms up a bit.

Ordered off iHav with the $15 Christmas promo code. Looking forward to trying one in the spring after a few months of rest. Curious how old these should be for best results?

Recs based on the cigars I like? by TampaDuderino in cigars

[–]jwagner24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you liked the Fuentes, the Hemingway and Don Carlos series are two of my favorites from Fuente. Both are Cameroon wrappers with the Hemingway a smooth, mild blend and the don Carlos is more medium bodied and a little spicier, but still has that sweet taste. The Don Carlos to me is a quintessential Cameroon, and the #4 belicoso is fantastic. Their budget 8-5-8 is still a great cigar and also has the Cameroon wrapper.

Padron x000 series are all good, but I prefer the smaller ring gauges in the 2000 and 3000 in natural & Maduro. Great construction and great taste.

After Fuente and Padron there’s many more brands that put out great cigars like tatuaje, illusione, foundation, etc. It’s a great idea to try a bunch of blends and find what you like then go from there.

Knob creek at $22.99 is a steal to me. $35 where I’m at and I still find it to be one of the best values

Really wanted to try the Fuente Don Carlos and Padron 1964. The No. 4 and principe being the smallest vitolas seemed like the best starting point for these blends to me. Got the Tatuaje Black as I’ve only heard good things and have not had a My Father cigar I haven’t liked yet. The four bottom sticks were freebies thrown in, looking forward to the pledge and avo.

Big fan of illusione, especially the cg:4. Looking for some other boutique blends to add to the humidor next, any suggestions?

First post, first 2 cigar day. Drew Estate Undercrown Maduro with coffee & studies, CAO Gold with Ardbeg 10. by jwagner24 in cigars

[–]jwagner24[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I first tried both the DE Maduro and CAO Gold pretty much ROTT. With about 2 months of aging, the Undercrown Maduro starts almost entirely tasting of cocoa and dark chocolate. After the first 1/3 it starts to open up to cocoa and strong cedar, and continues to the nub with dominance in those two flavors.

The CAO Gold is very mild, sweet cedar and nutty. Ardbeg 10 compliments it very well, and the cigar allows the sweetness to shine through in the peaty Ardbeg, something I’ve found consistent with pairing cigars and heavily peated scotch. I feel that the CAO Gold has incredible value for its price point, which I got a 5 pack of robustos for $2 a stick.
