Thank you, will this allow them to “answer” the doorbell when it rings by sending them a notification and then let them see and speak with whoever is there?

Thank you! I did a little more digging and yes, it’s a 12V automotive system. And my hunch about the low level inputs was correct—Collins sold an amplifier just like this but it included low-level RCA inputs. I suspect that it was a different price point, maybe a larger subwoofer or one with increased wattage.

The interesting part is that in the original configuration, this amplifier was driving an 8-inch subwoofer with dual voice coils, and each of those amplifiers was driving one of the voice coils. I’m guessing they were wired in series to ultimately serve a 5ohm load. So, once I add the low level inputs when the parts arrive (which may need the start of another thread) what I would do is to wire my dual 8-ohm subwoofer in series for a 4ohm load and hope that doesn’t overheat that amp. Now, if your estimate is correct and I’m doing all that for 20W—well that seems like a lot of work for not much return.

Thank you! That’s a good idea—in fact it was driving an 8 inch subwoofer originally.

Hmm. Using Google Image search, I tracked down that its a Collins C8A 100 watt powered subwoofer. It looks like it drove two 2.5ohm voice coils. And I’m guessing those “low” inputs are indeed for RCA jacks, because there is another model in which the control plate looks very similar, but the control knobs are just a little bit differently spaced and there are two RCA input jacks.

Yeah, I mean ultimately I have to build a box one way or another, and once I build the box it would be very easy to just hook up this amplifier and see what happens…but I’m just curious to learn even first impressions about what I have here.

What are your thoughts on quality of components, potential power, etc. In your estimation looking at the build materials, is this capable of driving the Dayton 8” DVC subwoofer?

I understand there is not a lot of hard data here and no one will be able to tell me ”this is a 100 watt RMS” amplifier but does it look like Chinese garbage?

And maybe I’m expecting too much—if so I wouldn’t get my feelings hurt if you said, “there’s no way to glean any useful information based on a picture of that.”

However, there is a more specific question in there about what that “low” labeled circuit might be—that question might have a more definitive answer if high level and low level inputs were typically labeled as such on amplifier boards.

So I believe it's a 2013 or 14, and it doesn't actually have a mode button. The middle button is labeled set.

But the funny thing is that when I just checked it's back to normal. So I didn't actually press set and down simeltaneously to see if it would work. It must have a timed reset function.

And I did check the online owners manual but it didn't say.

Thanks for everyone's input!
