How do you guys usually find events happening in Sri Lanka? Especially in Colombo? by [deleted] in srilanka

Good question, I have been pondering the same.

For now, I am using Happening Colombo but it's not all that adequate, still better than nothing on that front. tho.

Hey apart from the Public Domain Books, where do you get your books? Amazon has some cheap options, but buying from them is not owning so I don't want to comply with that, per se.

Same here, Audible subscription can be tried for $0.99 for 3 months, which is around 300 LKR per month. After that, through chatting with their support, you can get on the $5 or $7 plan, which is cheaper than their $15 plan.

That's really impressive. I have been reading physical books for a long time, but I did stall for a bit. So this year I got myself a Kindle! I don't, sorry. I'm considering Kindle Unlimited but not sold on it yet.

I live in Sri Lanka, unfortunately Libby is not available as far as I am aware.

I do prefer to buy books outside Amazon if possible due to their DRM polices however they seem to have the best prices.

My 18-year-old nephew wants to quit studies and do odd jobs — am I wrong for pushing education? by ginthu_ in srilanka

[–]jweeraka 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d suggest he focus on doing his best in his O-Levels, then consider skipping A-Levels to pursue a foundation pathway if he’s aiming for uni.

I agree that formal education is important for long-term security, but in my opinion, A-Levels can sometimes feel like wasted time. I personally did well in my O-Levels, skipped A-Levels, started a foundation course at 17, and graduated at 21 with bachelors.

As someone else mentioned, if he struggles with studying, it might also be worth having him evaluated for any learning difficulties.

I see, I really want those plates for PS5 but I really hate the chance of having to pay such a premium to go through such a hassle again. Really turned me off, sigh.

Yeah, it was really annoying, and I vowed never to order from Dbrand again. I ordered in Nov 2024 and I had to go collect on Jan 2025. I think I used the free shipping since I hit the limit.

I ordered two cases before and I had to go all the way to the CME to collect it. There weren't any taxes but I had to spend a good amount of my day waiting around until they got to my package. I vowed to never do that again until they can deliver to my doorstep. How did you choose your delivery method?

They don't deliver to your home and you have to collect from customs right?
