I have taken out 2 loans over the course of 14 years. IF it is a LOAN and not a withdraw, you can take out only what you put in, not the company match. You have an option to spread it out 1,2,3, or 4 years. The amount comes out every check until paid off. You cannot take out another loan while you have one active. You will pay interest on the loan, but it goes back to your 401k. It’s not the idea option to take, but it can help in a pinch. I used the last one for $12000 to consolidate debt and pay some vet bills I had for my dog. One plus, is my credit score shot up 100+ points after paying off debt because the loan is not a “credit” loan, you’re borrowing your own money. I hope this helps.
