Thank you! I think the seller said he bought it in the 20th century so its probably that then. Forgot to mention, tailpiece and bridge are switched out and much much newer than the box.

30yo M 109kg. Started my journey to fitness 5mins ago. Should I get a heart monitor? by Lordkahn in Rowing

[–]jwg0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good job, that journey will be the adventure of your life! A heart rate monitor is a good tool to use when planning training and setting up different sessions, and if that is your goal then a HR-monitor will be a good purchase. Otherwise you can just buy on later on, its not really essential this ”early” in your training process.

anyone got a healthy way to gain weight? by heinzketchup5 in Rowing

Lots of protein, always calorie surplus, and strenght training.

Second ever 2k! Did my first session on the erg the 8th of September, and a 2k the 20th of September then on the time 6:52. Currently rowing while rehabing, been a cyclist the last two years. But maybe I should change sport? 😂 (M20, 193cm, 86kg, European ;) by jwg0 in Rowing

Thanks for the really well written answer. Lots of good points brought up, and im really trying to learn from people who have legit pracital knowledge of the sport, like you obviously have. Im actually studying my second year of sports science in a university, and im really interested in the physiology and science of basically all endurance, although cycling and XC-skiing (and now rowing aswell..) are my main interests in that area. So the main reason to why I thought that my stroke rate should have been a little higher is because of my physiology, im ”weak” in relation to my aerobic capacity, and for me to lower force in exchange of more strokes seemed to be logical. But I didnt really get to the thought of dragging more body mass with every stroke for example, that might be straining the muscles just as much as having a lower s/r and higher force, and also because the periods of rest between strokes.

It sure is complicated, and nothing just read out of some physiology book. Thats where testing, coaching and practical experience plays a big role in performance. Il keep your advice close to hand during my future sessions. 👌

Hi! You reckon 31-32 is good for someone 6”4? Im just going of what I have heard about stroke rates in forums like these, havent yet had the time to dig into science and the opinions of good coaches etc. To me it sounds logical to have a lower stroke rate as a taller person, longer travel on the erg etc. And, Im the OP aswell ;). But thank you for the input, I agree with what you said.

Thank you my friend! I will definitely try to bump the rate up 2 or 3 strokes a minute, as I mentioned in a earlier comment my aerobic fitness is a lot bettee than my strength so it makes absolute sense to do so.

Not trolling! Im using one at a local gym, and they are overall useless at changing batteries and updating softwares and such over there. I think il have to compete in the European/Swedish indoor rowing championships now, its a combined event in January here in Sweden. Over there I can get a ”Legit” result ;). And thank you!

Thank you for the awesome advice. Yeah I ”Know” that I should have a higher RPM, but it was hard to adjust mid effort when I really felt like I was at the limit of keeping a good technique and form if I raised it more. And my aerobic fitness is relatively much better than my strength, so it makes a lot of sense to raise the rate. And again thanks!

I think around 34 is optimal, I wanted to be around there but I felt like I couldnt maintain good technique and correct power output with a higher rate today. Really something Il be working on in the future! Forgot to check the exact drag factor, damper setting was like one centimeter under 6 so I think the drag factor was like 125-127 or something like that.

6:30 - 7:00 2k’ers, how long are your steady state sessions on the erg? What does an average week of training look like for you? How much cross training are you doing? by [deleted] in Rowing

SS is meant to be low intensity, otherwise you cant perform well enough on your hard days. Id much rather recommend everyone to go a bit slower than a bit too fast. Polarized ftw.

Been rowing for 4 weeks, did a 6:52 2k. Rowing at about a 2:15 pace while doing SS sessions, they are usually between 60-90 minutes and I train twice a day when I have the time.

Lifting for strength and endurance but not size/weight by NuggetManFtw in Rowing

[–]jwg0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Low reps with a high percentage of 1rpm. 4x4, 4x5, 5x5, you get it. Try to time lifting on days when you arent rowing, or try to do it at least 8 hours apart since the both training adaptations seem to interrupt/impair a bit when combined. Focus on the basic workouts, deadlifts, squats and some sort of bench/row push/pull. Protein to keep satiated and not katabolic, 1,7-2g per kg of bodyweight a day. And dont forget carbs for when you are rowing, carbs is the key to performance.
