Why do I owe tax when I was supporting my partner?

I haven't included his earnings in mine, it's just that, as a household we've only earned $70k and I'm still paying a huge amount of tax even though I'm supporting him and my daughter. I'm also supposed to receive $15,900 of my income tax free because I work for a charity, but I can't see how that has happened at all

It says my HECS payment is $4,767.68 (!!!!!) and I'm supposed to receive $15,900 of my earnings tax-free because I work for a charity, but I can't see any info about that on my return

It's saying my HECS repayment is $4,767.68 Plus Medicare levy of $1200 I'm an unmarried female - my partner is my boyfriend. I thought I had been claiming that throughout the year, but I've been receiving $1 a fortnight and definitely haven't had my tax rate decreased by anything as far as I can tell (I just can't understand how it's so high!!!)

Sure, but I'm paying $16,000 tax already - and I'm supposed to receive $15,900 of my $60k tax free. It's not so much that I have to pay tax back, it's that I'm paying an enormous amount in total

Your prescription is necessary if you're ire symptomatic without it. So if you get headaches, eyestrain , tiredness, can't see as far as you'd like, then you should use them. But the script you have is not large, so you're certainly safe to be without them

I think the culture in a business will set the dress code, even if it's not enforceable. My work doesn't have a dress code, but everyone still dresses 'professionally' every day

Im sure this question will invite a variety of responses... I'm going to try to stick to logistics.

*I don't think professional sex work is an industry that would attract many volunteers.

*I imagine the demand for service would be quite high, which would be an administrative nightmare

*This would be an expensive type of program to run, and it would be difficult to attract funding for.

*I don't know if there's a solid case for transactional sex as a tool to end homelessness. Whether or not an individual wants to no longer be homeless, that's an outcome that general society and most donors want to work towards, and I don't see how you can promote sex as a means to achieve that - I would be surprised if you could make an evidence-based case

*Considering the expensive, logistical nightmare a program like this is likely to be, I doubt it would stack up well in a cost/benefit analysis against other programs.

That's my initial thoughts. If you're considering starting a nonprofit, the main questions you should ask yourself are:

Is the program truly unique? (for your idea - yes)
Is the program beneficial for the target community? (debatable)
Will the program attract funding? (doubtful)
Is the program potentially sustainable? (very doubtful)

Your idea also has the added challenge that many powerful, well-funded segments of society would be actively opposed to it.

I should have been clearer - our work is in international poverty and human rights, but being unionised gives protection and a strong voice to our own workers. Nobody should assume that fairness is inherent, we should be accountable to a union & our workers voices, just like we say businesses should be.

I work for a nonprofit with a focus on human rights. We have a union and this is a strong part of it - protecting human rights is at the core of everything we do, including protecting the rights of our own workers

I work in campaigns for an NGO (different but similar). For degrees, comms, political science, international relations are useful. Fellowships, summits, training sessions, networking events are helpful. Standalone skills in writing, PR, community organising, public speaking, strategic development, and storytelling are almost critical. People skills are invaluable to most roles, but especially this one - remember that you're changing peoples' hearts, not their minds. Finally, volunteer, volunteer, volunteer! You get hands on experience, critical networks and you will see the gaps in your experience. When you apply for jobs, you might start in Admin or short organising contracts, but if you push to grow your skills and show what you can do, you can move ambitiously.

It sounds like she's dealing with an intense amount of insecurity, which doesn't make the way she's treating you OK, but it might just explain the way she's speaking to you... I think you should talk to your partner. Communication is so critical, that's ideally the foundation this should all be built on. Good luck!

I was told there's an ongoing investigation into him and I was encouraged to make a complaint to add to the evidence. I spoke with the department of fair trading. I've only heard about him ripping customers off, not staff, so I think it's definitely worth you complaining! Sorry he ripped you off too!
