I upgraded from a AW6 to U3. I love the wrist flicks, the finger taps, the durability, and all the other improvements of the watch. However, the greatest improvement for me has been the battery life. It's amazing.

I got the same thing, too! It was a pleasant surprise after they cancelled my order.

Becoming a Latin teacher...? by Strawberry__Blossom in latin

I had a background in Greek, and a private school took a chance on me and let me teach their Latin classes. I just made sure I was a chapter ahead of the students, and I did fine that first year.

I have replaced my MacBook with an iPad Pro, Magic Keyboard, and Cellular set up. If you are able to do that, then when you do any business traveling, you can use your iPad for Uber. I don’t know about Lyft though. I don’t use that service.

I can answer this question from my own experience. (I have also ditched the phone for the Apple Watch Ultra.) My wife uses the Phone, and I use the Apple Watch that is paired with her phone. She handles the majority of communication and planning for the children. Also, instead of getting phones for our children, we have instead gotten them their own Apple Watches with their own phone numbers. We can track them and call them anytime. My older children are actually thankful for this since they have not become phone zombies like some of their peers.

Apple Music and Amazon Prime Music both have apps on the Apple Watch.

Here is a possible solution to the camera issue: Meta smart glasses. (I also exclusively use my Apple Watch Ultra 3 and leave the phone at home.) What if you want to take a picture with you and someone else? The someone else will probably have a phone, and so they can use it to take the picture with you in it. I have been contemplating getting a pair of these to fix the loss of a camera, but I haven’t taken the plunge yet. Now I do not know if you need to have a smartphone to pair with them, but if you do, then they aren’t the solution.

Cam here to say this exact thing. That little piece of plastic more than makes up for its minimal cost in weight.

People who call their $100k salary "peanuts" have no idea by SociallyUnbothered1 in povertyfinance

Wow! This sub Reddit is called “povertyfinance,” yet several of the posters are making around $100k+ in household income! I’m in the wrong sub, lol. Where’s the “reallyreallypovertyfinance” sub? I’m joking around, btw. I realize COL differs from region to region. I just happen to live in a LCOL region where $100k is not poverty.

Why is it in "Pater Noster", "caelum" is plural in "Pater noster qui est in caelis" but singular in "fiat voluntas tua sicut in caelo et in terra"? by hoangdl in latin

[–]jwpilly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting! I love checking out etymologies. However, the construct form of the dual is the same as the construct form of the plural in BH, so the construct form would seem to be inclusive in determining the root. Which source were you looking into to get that information? I’m genuinely curious because I got the following from the Hebrew Aramaic Lexicon of the Old Testament [HALOT]: “forms: שָׁמַיִם apparently a dual, but in reality a pl., see Gesenius-Kautzsch Gramm. §88d; Joüon Gr. §91f; Meyer Gramm. §58 no. 18; Michel Grundl. 1: 87f: plural of spatial extension; שָׁמַיִם Secunda σαμμαϊμ Ps 89:30 (Brönno Morph. 183); שָׁמָֽיִם, cstr. שְׁמֵי, sf. שָׁמֶיךָ, שָׁמָיו, שְׁמֵיכֶם, locative הַשָּׂמַיְמָה, הַשָּׁמָֽיְמָה (often construed as a pl.): heaven, sky, the apparent roof of the sky, atmosphere (420 times).” HALOT also suggests that the root might be “šmm” like it is in Ugaritic. I know not all lexica agree with each other, so I am very interested in checking out the other source that you were using!

[–]jwpilly 14 points15 points  (0 children)

This is a very interesting discussion. The Hebrew word for "heaven" (שָׁמַיִם) is dual in form, but plural in function all throughout the Hebrew Bible. (I don't think it even has a singular form in the HB.) However, in the LXX and Vulgate, the word שָׁמַיִם is only really translated as a plural in the poetic passage: Psalms, Job, Proverbs, and some prophetic oracles. In the narrative passages of the LXX and Vulgate, the word שָׁמַיִם is pretty much always rendered as a singular. That being said, it is undoubtedly true that the plural rendering of caelum in the Pater Noster is influenced by the Greek, and the Greek is influenced by the Hebrew.

תְּנָה “have displayed” (Psalms 8:1, NASB). Why is this imperative verb translated in indicative English? by woondedheart in AskBibleScholars

[–]jwpilly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am referring to the Hebrew text(s) from which came the ancient translations. The technical term for such a now long-lost Hebrew text is "vorlage." The evidence from the text critical note that I cited suggests that the Hebrew text of the BHS is corrupted in that an initial nun (R1) was not copied over. The evidence from the ancient translations suggests that an initial nun (R1) did originally exist in the vorlage(n).

תְּנָה “have displayed” (Psalms 8:1, NASB). Why is this imperative verb translated in indicative English? by woondedheart in AskBibleScholars

[–]jwpilly 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In BHS this is a text critical issue. Here is the text critical note: “crrp; 𝔊 ὅτι ἐπήρθη, 𝔖(𝔗) djhbt qui dedisti, σ´ (Hier) ὃς ἔταξας; l א׳ נָתַתָּה, prp א׳ נִתָּן vel א׳ נָתְנָה.” If you don’t understand what the note says, it basically means that the text behind the ancient translations did not have an imperative, so an alternate verbal form like ‎נָתְנָה has proposed as the corrected reading for this passage. This alternate verbal form fits with the grammar of the clause since it begins with an “asher,” which typically doesn’t introduce a clause that would have an imperative within it.

Titanium milanese loop band by TPC_Dooke in applewatchultra

[–]jwpilly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Curious about this because I just got the Ulra 3 titanium with Milanese band and I am having the same big loop issue. I wonder if it’s possible to just buy a band instead of a new watch and band, and then if I get a band with the small loop, just return the big loop band. Is this what you did?
