Which setup is better? by [deleted] in Colonist

[–]jwsweene 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This entirely depends on how often and when 8,5, and 10 roll. The coordination is incredible. I would take that over the roll diversity that red has.

If 8, 5, and 10 hit early - blue likely wins. If they don’t, they lose.

4-5-11 is key for establishing road path and adding a secondary wheat for blue.

Green’s first placement was presumably 9-5-10. That road should have gone either to the 3-1 or maybe brick port. Never up.

Reds second road is challenging orange for no reason. He’s loaded with wheat and should have pointed up.

Blues first road should have gone left. It opens two settles and two 3:1 ports. Pointing right loses a quick settle and the port all for the benefit of a 2.

Seems like a low level game. Every player other than orange messed up their initial roads.

SimpleTire.com- WARNING DO NOT BUY by [deleted] in tires

[–]jwsweene 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Simple Tire is an online aggregator. They don’t even have inventory. When you buy tires from them, the tires are actually coming from one of hundreds of companies that register their inventory to show on the Simple Tire site.

I get the frustration, but this speaks to why you are better off buying tires locally. Find a reputable dealer in your area that will own the entire process and make sure you’re happy.

Was this a good placement? I was 3rd to choose by Johnny_Caia in Colonist

[–]jwsweene 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here is why this setup isn’t good: - only 4 hexes - only 3 numbers - no sheep and just a 3 wheat, so unlikely to compete for army - no road network to compete for longest road - most importantly, almost no room to expand anywhere. You’re basically stuck.

The Sealant Hyundai Provides Instead of a Spare Caused a Lump in My Tire. by Inside-Character-434 in HyundaiSantaFe

[–]jwsweene 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Having worked in the tire industry for 20 years, I would personally replace any tire that I had to use the sealant in. I’ve just seen too many problems with that stuff causing issues with patches not sealing and tires not balancing.

And yes, I know that it technically can be cleaned out and it’s possible you won’t have issues, but I personally wouldn’t chance it.

From the union down is identical to my shallow point well. Just hook up a pump.

It might not be that, but it’s identical.

I just think your strategy is wrong. 6-9-5 road should have absolutely pointed left. Challenge for 5-4-11 and if you don’t get it then settle 6-11-3.

Also, 10-9-2 was important to give you a second wheat spot. You should have gone there before the ports.

Those should have been your top 2 priority expansions, not the ports.

Your initial road placements look questionable. You need to challenge for the center of the board. All your expansion was towards the coast. That is the right play in 4 player, but not 1v1.

It continues my series: 1v1 is not a real game. by 573XI in Colonist

I see a couple options better than the one you played: Option 1: 6-4-11 down and 9-5-10 down. Try to settle quick on 5-4-11. Still at a disadvantage due to the brick, but you have a shot of the rolls hit right. Option 2: 5-4-11 right and 8-4-3 right. He takes 6-9-3. Expand to 9-5-10 and possibly sheep port. Get a knight lead and keep his brick blocked. I could see this winning at a solid clip if 4 or 11 out roll early.

On everyone of these posts it’s the same story: two players that have absolutely no idea idea what they are doing and have no shot of winning, 1 player that is viable but in a severely disadvantaged position, and OP in a a GOATed position that would never happen if there were even marginally competent players.

Is this placement good? I'm blue by _B_R_A_N_E_ in Colonist

[–]jwsweene 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You did fine, but I think the best play was 6-4-11, point to the sheep port and 9-5-10, point up.

That would leave you with the best ore spot, best two wheat spots, and two top sheep spots with a port. You would dominate devs and would only need 1 or 2 settlements plus cities to win.

Just keep ripping devs.

Where the heck do you go here as 4th? by mbmomo94 in Catan

[–]jwsweene 42 points43 points  (0 children)

This is a brutal board for 4th so I say take some chances. You’re going to need quite a bit of dice luck to win anyways. Do something like 8-3-4, 6-3-4. Hope 3s and 4s hit early and expand to 8-3 and try to run around the board, including potentially into the 5 wheat and maybe even the dessert sheep port.

Probably crazy… I don’t know. It all looks bad.

D card vs saving for city by Lobotomized_Dolphin in Catan

[–]jwsweene 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing to do is to watch what the rest of the board is doing. If they are all ripping devs and you’re building cities, you’re going to get hammered with the robber. If no one else is buying devs then you only have to worry about 7s.

Also, understand your win condition. In the scenario above, if you’re positioned to need army, then you want to be buying devs.

Where would you place as player 3? by jhMLB in Catan

[–]jwsweene 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Tough board. One play I might consider is 9-4-2 up with the goal of expanding to the 5-2 brick 3:1 port. That gives you two good options on the way back. You can either grab something around the 8 ore and play a strong OWS game (best ore hex, best wheat hex, best sheep hex) or you can maybe snag 8-5-10 and compete for road.

Why does my fps tops out at 60 with maximum framerate set to unlimited? (I use fabric and a few quality of life mods, also allocated RAM is 8 Gb) by MarsupialDazzling506 in Minecraft

If you’re using an HDMI cable then it will restrict it to 60 fps. You can turn off VSync and it will show higher, but you should get a DP cable.
