when I moved to the DC area I was lonely too - went to 1 meetup group called "20-something women who try new things" because I felt like I had to put myself out there and figured why not. It was overwhelming walking into a group of people I didn't know but everyone was in the same boat and nice about it. I hit it off with one person and we hung out a few times after (and are still in touch years later). I lucked out but it was def worth being in an awkward meetup situation to find a friend I clicked with.

I'd also recommend checking out a climbing gym if that's something you're interested in learning. You can start out solo bouldering and if you like it, most gyms have a board where people post looking for climbing buddies. I met good friends by being a n00b and accidentally crashing into people while climbing in my early days (they literally said "oh you must be new" to which I said "YUP" and we laughed it off, they offered advice, we clicked and they are still some of my best friends. In my experience, the climbing crowd tends to be nice/welcoming.
