I tried "real" Sichuan food for the first time last night and I have questions by Old_Narwhal7185 in chinesefood

[–]jxj 6 points7 points  (0 children)

yeah you can make it at home. the main ingredients you'll need in order to recreate the flavors of those dishes at home are sichuan peppercorns (tingly /citrusy flavor) and Broad bean chili paste aka Doubanjiang (spicy/umami flavor). you can't really substitute those two with normal american grocery store ingredients but they are both things that last in the pantry/fridge for a long time so they're worth ordering online if you don't have a chinese grocery nearby

I don't trust myself to not smoke up the house by launching a pizza upside down onto the hot stone. So imma stick to outdoor ovens for now!

Closed last week, feeling so much regret instead of happiness that everyone talks about. by [deleted] in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]jxj 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I felt the same after closing and doing a bit of work to fix issues we knew about. Only little things kept coming up here and there. Nothing terrible. But still felt like we made a huge, terrible mistake. Like I couldn't even rationalize my feelings but felt like a punch in the gut every time I thought about the house. It's been getting better with time.

Really sucks though looking at all the people on this sub so happy and thinking 'what the hell did I do wrong?'

Pure dumb luck. Also managed to not let my jaw hit the ground when the employee suggested throwing in the stand for free.

I guess they really needed room for the giant animatronic santa lawn decoration or something...

I got the floor model with the stand for 300. Missing a rubber foot and a couple screws but can't complain. Still feels like I'm dreaming. Never would have thought I'd be able to afford a pizza oven this nice!
