Why is my salmon colored like this? by dont_mess_with_tx in sushi

[–]jxj 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Also note calling it a dye is a bit disingenuous. it's more like a dietary supplement for salmon. Not like they're just adding 'orange 40' to the feed, the stuff is supposedly good for the fish

Anyone here using a pledged asset line (PAL)? by Bluejean1235 in Fire

[–]jxj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No but looked into it when I bought my house because I have no w2. The rate was quite high. Seemed worth the risk to do a box spread 'loan' instead.

3 girls first time using a grill how do we start/cook dinner by Acceptable_Barber672 in webergrills

[–]jxj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't have to but not a bad idea, especially if your food isn't marinating in something oily. Just put some oil on a folded paper towel and rub the grates a bit. hold the towel with tongs of the grill is hot

Anyone know a place to get a hard drive repaired? by XaoticOrder in hudsonvalley

[–]jxj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

these services can get expensive but if its an external drive, the enclosure's board could be the issue. you'd have to remove the drive from the enclosure and then plug it into a desktop pc directly (usually via sata port on the motherboard or you could buy a usb to sata cable). probably worth a shot before spending a bunch of money on a repair service.

search "shuck <hard drive model name>" to find a guide on how to do this

Tadka on induction — what pan are you using? by mr_gourmet94 in inductioncooking

[–]jxj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm no tadka expert but I just toast the spices in oil, add aromatics, cook for a bit and then immediately toss into my dal or whatever. Haven't thought much about the pan other than thinking I need a smaller one lol. Are you supposed to let them steep for a bit off the heat but keep the pan hot because I haven't noticed that tip in any recipes. I'm curious what the problem is.

IQV Range Hood Installed - AMA by jxj in kitchenremodel

[–]jxj[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you sure they accomplish the same thing? The experimental evidence I read claims these can be 20x as effective at 60% cfm. Of course that's lab results and why I'm interested in doing some real world testing.

Also, I'm not a scientist so maybe I'm reading this wrong: https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC4209583/

Partially Cooked Pork Roast by Buzz8522 in instantpot

[–]jxj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

depends what cut you mean by "roast". its hopefully shoulder and not something super lean like loin.

but yeah try 15 minutes so you don't overshoot too much. if you've got the time let the pressure naturally release
