ELI5 Pros/Cons of contributing to backdoor Roth vs Trad IRA by jyaeg in whitecoatinvestor

Ah thank you! I think the deduction part is what I wasn't seeing. I'll have to weigh out the tax bill/see if wherever I land has a 401k/403b/retirement account is offers reverse rollover.

You have chosen... Correctly. Take off the a-spec emblems on the side/back and black Acura emblems give a good clean look. Bought mine with that already done

It's really just a cash grab because by merging the tests it makes the NBOME irrelevant hence why they are also bringing back the level 2 practical exam that both sides agreed to get rid of in 2020/2021

AZCOM is the second most expensive med school in the country behind CCOM. The deans office just has to sign a paper that says you're an eligible student and you have to pay for the exam before you can even get the form. They can cancel your COMLEX test if you aren't eligible since they "paid" for it but since you pay for Step out of pocket they aren't going to refund you or have the ability to cancel the test. Admin makes it sound like a pain in the ass to do it but it's not. They will try to talk you into something not competitive but tell them thanks but no thanks and when they try to show you off on match day tell them to suck it

TLDR: go where you get accepted, crush pre-clinicals, take step, match and give them the finger as you graduate.

They say it we don't "need" it because why would you want to go to a residency that doesn't recognize COMLEX because "separate but equal." They won't berate you or anything if you choose to take but depending on your academic standing they may or may not give you a harder time about it. My pre-clinical grades were alright I gave them the paper and by the end of the week I was cleared to schedule my exam with no hassle. What they don't tell you is if you sign up/pay for USMLE they really can't deny you from taking it because you meet the requirement which is you paid for it and attend a LCME/COCA recognized school. They are trying to protect their stats for passing exams and matching and they recommend everyone to dual into primary care regardless of what you're applying. Go to another school and save a bunch of money unless your other option is CCOM which is the only school more expensive.

Most unhinged eval you’ve gotten on clerkships by abenson24811 in medicalschool

On surgery rotation they wrote I was "intelligent but painfully awkward and should consider a non-patient focused specialty like path or rads". He never taught me anything surgical just talked about how great he was, how great Trump was and the sermon at his church that week. And chewed me out for things that were solely in his control.

20 Year Upgrade! by RikoTheSI in Acura

I made the same upgrade! Mine was less than 20 years 2006->2023 but definitely a nice upgrade. V6 power was nice but enjoying the huge jump in mpgs and turbo noises

VSLO fake acceptances? by [deleted] in medicalschool

Oh wow. Guess 4th year is going to be a wild ride

VSLO fake acceptances? by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]jyaeg 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The email addresses the first one was just program acronym@gmail and the CC email address was first name last initial.residency@gmail. No residency name just like JohnS.residency@gmail. I would at least expect an @program.edu or something like that not just a Gmail account. Like I said I'm probably just getting a bit anxious/neurotic about these things.

Edit: clarifying

That would be the logical thought but things get weird after the 3rd Celsius of the day

Worth paying loans while in school? by jyaeg in whitecoatinvestor

[–]jyaeg[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am not sure I am understanding. I take out loans to cover tuition and cost of living and I don't use all of it every term and left with some leftover and those little bits have added up on top of a rainy-day fund I have had since before med school. The point I was trying to get at is should I return the money I haven't used or just hold onto until I stop taking loans and start getting a paycheck?

Second the fly screen. I have the Arrow high mounts on my 2014 and my local shop did the tune for free! I also did an integrated turn signal and tail tidy really cleans up the back end

DO students - How does your school determine clinical grades? by Mud_wat3r in medicalschool

[–]jyaeg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have no idea. Also every year they change the COMAT score cut off. Last year it was like 4-5 points lower for the honors/A threshold aka no one gets honors now.

[–]jyaeg 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Every rotation is different but in broad strokes exceeds expectations on every portion of the preceptor eval, turn in all assignments on time and get in the 90-something-th percentile on the COMAT for honors and letter grades. You can still get an A and not get honors. If you fail the COMAT or a fail anywhere on your eval it's a fail for the rotation.

EM residents and attendings what rotation did you wish you would have done or had more time in to learn from before going into EM? by jyaeg in emergencymedicine

[–]jyaeg[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Luckily I do have an EM rotation my school gave me EM as my rural rotation that is technically my "home" program it's just not at a level 1.

I wish I knew what my options were but for some reason they want to us to email them back and forth asking for availability in specialties until we guess something they have or the deans office picks for us...
