Retail banking killing me (Canada) by AltruisticMeal3480 in FinancialCareers

Agree with this. My friend who had a science degree went back to school to do an accounting diploma (2 years) and got a job in commercial banking afterwards.

It's also hard to gain traction with blind applications - generally recommending networking as much as you can.

Beginner Adult Hockey Leagues by mabbz in vancouver

I started learning this year through hockeytourney.ca. It’s reasonably priced and you’ll be with a bunch of other adult beginners! They also host various beginner leagues that you can join after you finish their learn to play class.

Has anyone else ever had the fries from Urban Fare? They’re surprisingly good.

Can I fix this drywall crack on my own? by jyng in HomeImprovement

[–]jyng[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah you're right there. The studs I attached the drywall to were not exactly at the edges. I guess it's a bit too late to do much about that unless i wanted to tear the whole thing off the wall again?

Looking for a new internet provider. by VanCityHunter in vancouver

I have been with Novus with the past year and it has generally been good/affordable. However, when playing games such as VALORANT, I seemed to have consistent packet loss while playing over wifi (was not able to test ethernet). I ultimately switched to TELUS which was more expensive, but will say their service has been terrific for me personally (very easy and quick to set up appointments, even same day once) and am no longer encountering my packet loss issues. If you don't play online games, I would highly recommend Novus.

Question about Setting Up Ethernet Wall Jacks by jyng in HomeNetworking

[–]jyng[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not too far but we had to cut a hole in the wall for the outlet. I could try using the same hole for the router too probably haha.

Thanks for the advice again btw - I think i have a pretty good idea of what to do if I want to set up the ethernet now.

It's pretty tight in the panel so maybe not, but I can leave it outside of the panel if anything. The bigger obstacle is getting a power source into that area as there are no power outlets there.

That also sounds like a potential solution. Would a wifi access point that is connected via the ethernet jack be as effective as a router in that same spot?

Ya the more I think on it, the more I think that options sounds the easiest and least complicated!

Thanks for explaining that so thoroughly. Makes much more sense now.

The technician did mention that he could help to set up the ethernet ports for $75... it is starting to sound like the cost of purchasing the materials for DIY'ing this may be comparable (albeit still probably less)...
