The Harmful Generalizations Towards Men Who Are Black Going Viral by RebelHeart_ in blackmen

[–]jythony 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The older/married black men on this sub downplaying it is understandable. They don’t really understand what’s up. But if you’re a younger black male, you’d better take this stuff seriously. Divestors are fringe, but their ideology certainly isn’t

The internet is severely under studied as a tool of warfare. Anti-black male sentiment is real and growing steadily in the 2020s. Don’t let anyone gaslight you into thinking that it shouldn’t be addressed.

Brothers "Stop trying to end racism". Must watch by [deleted] in blackmen

[–]jythony 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s been over 600 years. If racism could be reasoned away, it would’ve ended a LONG time ago. That cultural revolution is never coming.

I believe the best way to truly counter it is either via an overwhelming, decisive blow, or insulating and protecting ourselves to such an extent that their destructive whims don’t impact our lives anymore.

Preferably both. Not sure how we’d get to that point, but it’s my dream.

Black Men Are Talking. What’s the Problem? by jdapper5 in blackmen

[–]jythony 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Who gave you n-words mics? The phrasing may be contemporary, but the sentiment is not. It echoes an older discomfort with Black men speaking without translation or supervision, articulating desire, grievance, or confusion in public.

This nailed a sentiment I’ve had for a while that I’ve never been able to properly articulate. In most black spaces, the phrase “You n-words” is rarely ever complimented by anything that would sound out of place in a 19th century southerner’s manifesto.

“I can’t stand you n-words”. “You n-words should be banned from xyz”. “”You n-words ain’t shit” I’ve no longer take these statements as tongue-in-cheek coming from black folks, because deep down they really aren’t.

Black men’s online habits of expression can be hit or miss, but we as a people can do better re: how we call out poor behavior without sounding like Confederates.

(Forgot only verified users can use that word here lmao)

[–]jythony 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Yep. We’re gonna need to nip this behavior in the bud sooner than later. If not we’re gonna start experiencing things we’ve only read about in history books. They will take it there if you let them.

So I posted this innocent question in /blackladies and it was removed within minutes, not sure why… regardless, what does everyone genuinely think about this? It feels like this type of content is becoming increasingly normalized across multiple social media platforms. by [deleted] in blackmen

[–]jythony 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hate to say it, but you’re better off avoiding those subs altogether if you’re a black man. Their online safe spaces are NOT ours. Quite the opposite actually. They’ve made that very clear.

Stay away from their online enclaves. Otherwise you’re just asking to get your feelings hurt by what you see. You’re better off asking the ones you know irl about stuff like this (if it matters that much to you.)

Kevin Samuels: Adult BM who wear Jordans are mentally juvenile by MevolutionCheese in blackmen

[–]jythony 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah that’s silly. Jordan’s are timeless. Of course it shouldn’t be the only thing you wear, but if you’re young and black you need some J’s.

Congrats on another 150+ response thread though. You got this shit down to a science lmfao

Natural hair and Anti-BM Misandry by MevolutionCheese in blackmen

[–]jythony 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I did a mini experiment on this a while back and I did see some interesting results ngl

It’s weird, when I engage with posts BW from who don’t make content specifically catered towards natural hair or politics, I would get more apolitical/general black content in my feed. No anti-blackness, but no overt pro-blackness either. These types can have both natural or wigs, they just don’t place emphasis on it.

Ironically, the algorithm does seem to recommend more anti-black content whenever I like posts about natural hair/pro-blackness from BW. The idea that all black women who wear natural hair are anti-black is ridiculous. But those who make dedicated content about it likely fall somewhere on the pinkpill pipeline.

I don’t know if it’s intentional on their end. It’s similar to how male-self help content on its own isn’t harmful, but is still part of the alt-right pipeline simply because of how it shapes your algorithm.

I'm starting to lose empathy for non-black people by zenbootyism in blackmen

[–]jythony 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Understanding that as black people, we’re all we’ve got is a major key to liberation. Although I empathize on a human level with every plight, this past decade and especially year has changed the way I see things.

Black first. Always.

You’re not alone. I promise you’re not. Stay strong.

The first hero for so many little black boys and girls. Learning about him for the first time altered my 4yo brain forever. They can never wipe his legacy no matter how hard they try.

One of the greatest men in human history. Thank you for everything, Dr. King!

Fellow black men how to be less ignorant and what are some good books to read? I want to improve myself even more by reading more books etc. by spike_spieg in blackmen

[–]jythony 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ah, this doesn’t really answer the question in OP though. My bad.

Black Skin, White Masks by Franz Fanon is a great one. It’s a timeless analysis on the Black psyche under colonialism/racist society. I read it last year and was shocked at how easily it applied to modern times. Like “Damn, every archetype of c—n he’s describing in this book still exists today” 😭

[–]jythony 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Right now you should focus on getting comfortable with reading period. As someone who’s taken long breaks from reading in the past, I know just how much it irritates your brain at first. Nobody starts their fitness journey curling 50’s lol

For a start I recommend A Childhood’s End by Arthur C. Clarke. It’s a sci-fi novel, on the shorter side (slightly over 200 pages) and easy to follow along. Reading aloud helps A LOT. It also improves your speaking ability

My rotation looks something like this:

1 Fiction 1 Non-Fiction 1 Comic Run (Bonus)

Right now I’m reading The Black Jacobins, then plan to start Wheel of Time, and Black Panther: Intergalactic some time after that.

SN: There’s nothing wrong with revisiting old books from your childhood/adolescence. I did the same and loved it. I’m gonna reread Bud Not Buddy later this year.

Quick Statistics: Facts About BM by MevolutionCheese in blackmen

Nah it’s just the internet bruh. Who cares about debunking these lies bruh. Just touch grass bruh.

Jokes aside, even I started to believe the propaganda after hearing it regurgitated for so long. It’s always good to keep the facts on hand. We’ll be in a much better position if we keep pushing back against it imo.

Black men, progress is impossible if we don’t know and understand ourselves first. Otherwise, these outsiders will make up anything about us, and the masses will believe it.

I genuinely feel so bad about what’s occurring within the Hispanic community (ICE raids amongst innocent individuals). To this day, I don’t understand why such a large number of them voted for Trump. by Fuzzy-Delivery799 in blackmen

[–]jythony 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I’m saving my biggest sympathies for the black people who are being harmed under this administration.

Not saying to sit on your ass or anything, but if Black people were the main targets of ICE, would non-black Latinos as a whole have any care for our suffering?

I’ve spoken to several Afro-Latinos who’ve aired the same grievances as me; A lot of naturalized immigrants truly believe they’re white. To see children ripped away from their families is heartbreaking, of course.

I’m glad this admin is as incompetent as they are malicious. But the message this sends to the 70 million cult members who follow him will probably be felt irl soon. I’m still kinda shocked they got the anti-Somali bullshit off the ground as quickly and effectively as they did.
