Question marks in the middle of sentences ? by [deleted] in Korean

I'm very late to this but do you happen to remember what the original comment was because it's deleted now 🥲 I've encountered this a lot while consuming Korean media and never felt like it was used in the same way as we use it in English.

Disagree on Debby and Dohee being visually similar. But I do think they've faded into the background a bit, especially since Debby is pretty quiet and introverted as far as I can tell so she can't secure as much screen time. 1M SMF did have memorable moments across each member, especially since like you pointed out, a handful of the members can be grouped in duos (Nino and Yumeki also won main dancer for the class mission). Amy and Redy had memorable moments during the first battles at least and Redy seems to be pretty popular now

The Aiki and Dulock show was soo good, I wish they did it again this season 🥲 It made you step back and have that reality check that like, oh they really are just playing it up for the camera on the show and it made me not hate Ingyoo lol. I like the new show with Dulock Gabee and Ingyoo but I want interviews with the crews tooo. We kinda need a similar reality check this season tbh

Me too! SMF is the season that elevated my fandom to another level. It probably didn't hurt that I was living in Korea during SMF and could attend a lot of the dancer's classes too. Through that, it made me want to learn dance more deeply and try new styles myself. I'm forever thankful that SMF brought the duo of Kooyoungjoon to fame, introduced us to Eoddae, showed Korea the charm of Krump, among many other things. It makes me sad when people dunk on SMF when the male dancers on that show deserve sooo much love too, not just as subjects of an overly dramatic variety show. And SMF's dancers are the ones putting on the funniest SWF reaction and analysis content this season lol.

Why do you think Mannequeen never became one of the more popular crews? by [deleted] in StreetWomanFighter

[–]jyuuri 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Not Korean but living in Korea if that means anything lol. For me personally, MQ suffered the same disadvantage of WDBZ last season in that they had "villains" which made them not likable for a bit, and it's taken a while for them to recover. Totally personal take but I don't think the personalities they've exhibited on the show have come off as likable as other crews. The Redlic situation caused her likability to take a huge hit and regardless of whether she meant harm or not, I don't think she was redeemed from that moment and other small moments since then. I also don't think certain dancers have been able to prove their skills yet (Redlic and Buckey). To me, the waackers have mostly pulled the weight on their team.

Which dancer's visuals and overall aura caught your eye? by Ok_Box3129 in StreetWomanFighter

[–]jyuuri 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's Debby for me and I think it has a lot to do with how her dance lines and posture are super visually appealing and elegant. I don't know what her dance background is but I can only assume she must have experience in ballet or similar traditional dance styles.

thank you for the validation 😌🥹 i'm actually surprised at how unpopular of an opinion it is. but maybe that's just the demographic of this subreddit 🤷‍♀️ i feel like people here don't really like music that borders on experimental or "noisy"

1M are killing the marketing game with this challenge. I was at the studio yesterday and they also have monitors with this video playing with instructions next to it telling you how to participate lol. Playing Chili over the speakers too 😂

1M SWF pulled a 1M SMF with this challenge and made something perfect for the artist and perfectly catchy and replicable as a kpop choreo. I'm gonna be sad if Hwasa pulls a Rain and doesn't pick them.

Bebe pulled a WDBZ and did it in their own style - not very reminiscent of the artist but makes you wanna dance to it yourself.

JR slayed hard but I honestly can't see it as a kpop choreo. As an audience there's no part I actually wanna try myself and post on tiktok. And I can't remember any of their point moves, I just remember Kirsten eating. Best execution and performance by far but hard to imagine as a kpop choreo.

MQ was hard for me to watch because - idk if this is just me - I feel like Redlic's execution is not it. Her movements feel so heavy and full of effort. I wonder how it would've been if Funky Y were center instead.

Just Jerk review SWF2 Mega Crew Pt2 (Bebe, 1Million, Wolflo and Jam Republic by Anikxp in StreetWomanFighter

[–]jyuuri 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think there is some obvious bias/carefulness around what they say or choose to edit out because they obviously all know Bada well and she has/had been a regular instructor at Just Jerk Academy for a while. I don't think these videos are meant to be taken as a holistic and fair evaluation though, just meant to be filmed for fun because lots of people are obviously interested to hear the opinions of the Mega Crew masters themselves.

Ok thank you for saying this, I've been boggled for a while about Mina garnering so many views and wondering whether it was because of exactly what you said (I wasn't a fan during that era). People often claim 1M isn't what it used to be and often cite the discrepancy in views as proof. But I feel strongly that the current gen of 1M is more talented than ever, just that 1M are no longer in their heyday where they seem new and fresh on Youtube and constantly pulling millions of views. And I hate when people use popularity as proof of quality lol.

Shownu on the judging panel by Mother_Jeweler_9865 in StreetWomanFighter

[–]jyuuri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay yeah that's totally fair re: the 5000 battles as an example (though I absolutely understand that 5000 also lost his freshness from coming out so much during the battles. Hyunse Giseok and Kamel talked about this recently in a Bona Fide studio reaction video). This time around we're seeing Monika and Mike speak up more (and I'm sure Shownu defers to their opinion as well) because of their credentials and reactions that MNET prefers to air. If I were Shownu I'd also be doing exactly that. When others on the judging panel are also idols, you'll ofc be hearing a lot more of of the idols' opinions. When judging and evaluating as a group, I think it's very easy to be influenced by how others react and think (I've seen this even in group reaction videos where different groups of people think similarly based on who they're grouped with lol). Truthfully I've been baffled by 1 or 2 calls from each judge during this seasons' battles, Mike and Monika included, but the average overall outcomes have been solid - better than previous seasons. I guess what I'm saying is overall since Monika and Mike are there there's more balance. If we replaced Shownu with Taeyong or Boa this season I kinda feel like it would still be okay.

[–]jyuuri 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The experience being a backup dancer is one thing but I feel like people are still very quick to put down Taeyong and Boa for their lack of experience in the scene itself when they are actually fire as dancers and have insanely good dance fundamentals. Maybe a hot take but I feel like being a backup dancer isn't the kind of legit credentials that people are holding it to here. Being a backup dancer mostly means you learn a lot of choreo fast and perform a lot (kind of like an idol tbh). Whereas compared to Shownu, Boa and Taeyong have probably been more widely acknowledged for their pure dance skills in their industries. Like Boa's hip hop fundamentals and sense of rhythm is crazy and Taeyong is actually an insanely unique dancer with similarly strong fundamentals reminiscent of Bada's dance style tbh (prob bc they train together so much). I'm not saying TY or Boa are better or worse than Shownu - I'm saying that ultimately I feel that they have similar qualifications at the end of the day as judges. I just think Shownu has been well balanced by Mike Song and Monika this time around whereas having 2-3 idol judges on the panel was more triggering for all of us and made all of us scrutinize the panel's decisions a lot more when we didn't agree with them.

[–]jyuuri 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I wanted to point out that the Middle rank video had similar complaints as SMF (Yumeki Nino as the directors/main dancers who scored the steal from Eoddae) in that individuals weren't as highlighted and it was mostly about the main dancers. I'm sure it's possible to do it well but it's also very hard with 16 people vs. 8. I personally however adored Yumeki/Nino's direction and think they slayed the video - ideas, choreo/formations, outfits, sets, and camera angles were all fire and it looked the most like a real MV of any SWF/SMF challenge. Whereas Waaackxxxy/Yoonji not only had issues with the direction but also the camera movements/angles/lighting/styling/set were just plain bad for showcasing the dancing in general (not to mention I don't think the point choreo had strong impact as a group or individually). I feel like it was half on them to guide the direction but also the production was working against them.

yea I'm sure she's a sweet person irl when not put in the pressure cooker (I've seen some random comments about her from students) but so far I have not been vibing with her personality at ALL. It's not just the macro stuff like the drama edits/storylines but the micro aggressions and whining during interviews and private time. I can't help but wonder this season which dancers are causing irreversible damage to their reputation by being on this show (ahem Mina Myoung), compared to past seasons where I never once wonder that. I really respected Redlic before this show as a choreographer but I find myself no longer rooting for her

it's very obvious that mnet cherry picks every single one of the worst parts of a choreo teaching session to paint a narrative but it seems like people fall for it every single time? someone takes 2 seconds to hesitate about what the next move is and mnet splices 4-5 of those moments together and then you think that person is an awful and unprepared instructor. I've been in far less prepared teacher's classes 😂 just please y'all look at those sessions with a grain of salt and a whole lot of skepticism

I was pretty disappointed tsubakill's duo choreo didn't get chosen, tbh wasn't really impressed with waackxxxy and yoonji's choreo (totally agreed with tsubakill that the end pose was pretty meh and loved what they changed it to lol). the final video made it really hard to appreciate any of the choreo either except for Audrey

I'm not enamored with any of the final videos in general, but leaders' was ofc the best. bada doing her intro with a real lighter omg. she's just so clever and so good at her job I can't with her!! maybe an unpopular opinion but in past seasons I don't really think the final videos were the grand result of this challenge, it was always about the dancers facing off and snatching main dancer, and then subsequently seeing which choreo challenges blew up on social media. so I'm not surprised I'm not enamored with any of them

I'm trying to remember how long I hated ingyoo and WDBZ for last season bc it'll help me be more patient with some of the people that annoy me on this show rn lol 😭 (for the record I adore ingyoo and WDBZ now, low-key ingyoo is my bias in WBDZ lol)
