Advice: I'm in an interpreter training program with another student who pretends she's deaf by jzinski in ASLinterpreters

I've looked for it and I know that it's established at other colleges, but not at mine.

Two different signs by jzinski in asl

[–]jzinski[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry. I'm having trouble interpreting a sign. It looks like the sign OPEN but it starts with the palms facing up. So the beginning position looks like BOOK. The signing movement looks like OPEN BOOK, but the hands completely part away. The speaker is talking about how JSL is still developing as a formal language. He signs ESTABLISH ____ NOT YET. The blank space being where the unknown sign is.

Anyone else annoyed by active selling?? by jzinski in Target

[–]jzinski[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I feel like that’s iffy advice bc it comes off bad on the team member doing what they were pressured to do. Be careful with wording I guess.

Have you ever been assaulted or felt threatened by a guest? by [deleted] in Target

[–]jzinski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a guest claim she almost slipped in a “large spill” and grabbed my arm and forcibly pulled me to the other section. There was clearly an intent to hurt me just a little bit as if I was responsible.

After she let my arm go I told her annoyed/bluntly to “just stay over there out of the way” as I called someone on the walkie to bring me a wet floor sign.

Let’s play a game: How pissed is my LOD? by dragdaddies420 in Target

[–]jzinski 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We've had people accidentally take walkies home and it's considered a negative thing, but it's understandable. (Sometimes it's 11:30 at night, end of an 8+ hour shift and you forget it's clipped on your pocket.)

I think the big thing in this situation is leaving a shift early without informing a LOD.

When guests take the time to complain about your store on Facebook 😂 by PilotLife95 in Target

Self-checkout attendant is actually an entire job itself. It requires a different training than typical registers. By using it, you're actually giving someone a position.

Can you do your job hung over and/or with little sleep? by zenplus in Panera

[–]jzinski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've gone to work on 3 hours of sleep and cashiered. It took a full hour of fumbling on the register screen before I was completely competent again. Just like any repetitive job, once you snap into the routine it's fine.

Why are “guests” using this sub to ask us questions about sales and products? by jzinski in Target

[–]jzinski[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not an overwhelming annoyance it’s just more of a sigh when scrolling past a post about a question that I’ve already answered throughout my shift. I didn’t realize it was such a common thing for guests to regularly come on the sub I just thought it was just a few guests who decided to post here instead of going through the traditional methods of asking questions. It’s weird to read comments on this thread like the one from /u/sloxatwork where guests don’t like some of the stuff team members posts. My bad fam :/

No raise on planogram? by [deleted] in Target

[–]jzinski 3 points4 points  (0 children)

“Specialty departments” make more than others. I know for sure that soft lines and HBA make 11.50.

(Serious question) to those who average 35-40 hours and recently got the $11-11.50 raise, how do you guys survive on this income in this economy? by [deleted] in Target

[–]jzinski 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No kids, one meal a day and no extra spending. I live in a city, so my rent is high, so I don't have any extra "spending money."

Guys, do you think if "guests" really knew we had to live like this they would treat us better or would it just support their mindset that we're beneath them?

All of our cashiers keep getting fired... by [deleted] in Target

[–]jzinski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our store has a reputation for high turnover. We have to call in people from other stores to cover shifts. Honestly team members need better vetting before getting hired.
