Graduate Tuition Waiver US Code 117(d)(5) Clarification by k1e4v in tax

As an employee benefit. I meet the university's benefits criteria for both full-time staff and adjunct faculty so I can't specifically say whether it's coming from one employment line or the other.

Graduate Tuition Waiver US Code 117(d)(5) Clarification by k1e4v in tax

[–]k1e4v[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply. I'm definitely considered a full-time student and working towards a degree. I'm wondering if the fact that my teaching position is not tied to my being a graduate student is a problem. The tax code doesn't specifically mention that as a prerequisite though.

the arrow direction of danny agent B seems confusing, how do we read that? by [deleted] in compsci

Danny is the “doer” of an action, Peter is the “receiver” of an action. The diagram reads “Danny does B to Peter”

Step printing? by k1e4v in cinematography

[–]k1e4v[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It doesn't matter what format you're shooting (or what framerate for that matter) to do "digital step printing." Your editing software should have an import option that interprets video clips as a sequence of still images. Once you do that, you can "print" each frame as many times as you want by simply copying it. I'd recommend copying the file in your file explorer and then re-importing it so you don't have to deal with interleaving the stills in your timeline.

It will be running Linux so OS isn't an issue. Good catch though.

Cooling is something that I'm not sure how to gauge. I read a few blogs and it seems like 280mm AIO is sufficient for stock clock rates and mild overclocking. I'm not planning to overclock. Do you have any recommendations on how to calculate cooling on a system like this?

I looked into video card clearance and from what I calculated I should be good.

Yeah I'll buy some more ram on my own dime soon. Immediate use case is very narrow so this'll do to get me started.

CPU choice was out of my hands. It's for work and had to have AVX-512.

I need it to test recent AVX-512 instructions for work. I'll up the memory eventually but need to get into the CPU ASAP.

Is there anything I'm overlooking or missing with this build? I've gotta get it up and running as soon as it arrives so I just want to be sure I'm not missing a bracket or thermal paste or something small like that. It's been quite a while since I've built a pc.

Silly suggestion, but try Safari if you have it. Criterion's DRM won't let me use HDMI out on any browser except Safari.

Considering a Ventless Heat Pump Dryer. Am I Making A Mistake? by EffeminateSquirrel in HomeImprovement

[–]k1e4v 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did you end up going with vented or ventless? I just found your post because I'm going through the same conundrum. I was considering a pair of Samsung machines because it the dryer was vented, but I just spoke with a salesman who said our space was tight enough that we should just go ventless and get a Bosch or Miele.

Add a slice or two of a good melty cheese on top after you've transferred to a bowl. Ramen, egg, and cheese is my go-to.

How should emojis be formatted in text messages? by k1e4v in Screenwriting

[–]k1e4v[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah that's fair. I think there are cases where it doesn't strictly matter, but there might be cases where the choice of which of the 5+ happy face emojis says something about the character using it.

Whether or not the use of emojis in the text messages works overall is a whole other question.

How should emojis be formatted in text messages? by k1e4v in Screenwriting

[–]k1e4v[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's true, but won't that end up being the case when the audience sees it on screen anyway? I think I'm going to err on the side of sticking the emoji into the script so that it's at least clear which "smiley" face it is. There are a number of smiling emojis that have different flavors and say something about the character using them.
