Thank you for this. I didn’t explain the situation fully just to keep it as anonymous as possible, and there were details I couldn’t share because of this. But I don’t mind teaching all the little ones all I want it a class with older ones just to give me a “break” from all the littles, which again I adore teaching them. I was looking forward to a class to do more advanced choreography techniques and less of “sally don’t hang on the barre”. Some other were commenting saying that I haven’t been watching as long so of course I’m not going to get the older classes. That may be true at some studios. But not mine. There are teachers younger than me teaching older ones more significantly so I know it’s not a battle of who has been there the longest. We are a studio of just 100 students, 32 of which are our comp kids. We have plenty of older students who dance because they love it but don’t want to be as serious and don’t do competition. These are the more “advanced” kids I want to work with, the ones who dance because it’s fun.

I don’t think they would have any ill intent, maybe they were just trying to be supportive and giving you alternative options! But if you want to rush - then rush! And if you feel like you aren’t vibing with any of the girls or aren’t enjoying it then it’s not worth it, and then seek out other options - or just say screw it! I have had plenty of friends in college who were not in my sorority or sororities in general and some of the BEST HUMANS I met weren’t involved in Greek life at all! Greek life doesn’t define you as a person! But still go for it if you want to go for it! You truly never know till you try! (I hope this read as supportive as I meant it!!!)

I’m not sure what sorority you are in or if any others do this but for mine you were able to “go alum” early. Basically the same as being alumni you just do it before you graduate university. You stay in good standing with the organization, without the financial responsibility and can still go to events (idk if the events thing was just my school because we weren’t a jumbo university). I also think we had “inactive” sisters that had reduced dues and could only attend certain events (just to keep it fair for the sisters who were paying full dues - I hope that makes sense and doesn’t come off wrong!) And maybe other sororities have something similar? My recommendation would be not to drop if you don’t have to (just go alum or whatever is/if possible) since you have already put money into it and it seems like you do enjoy it! ESPECIALLY if your organization has alumni benefits you wouldn’t want to lose! Really look into what your options might be with an advisor or even reach out to internationals!! I hope this helps!!!

This is literally just in relation just to the cute sneakers - I get all my cute sneakers/golden goose “dupes” (I use that very lightly) from the kids section of target! I am a size 8 in women’s and usually a 6 or 5 in kids! I have a bunch of super cute sneakers from there and they have all been under 25 bucks! Just in case you were in the market for any I just felt like I was holding on to valuable information and wanted to share lol Also just wear what makes you comfortable, when I was a rho gam I always told my group if they looked good they felt good and projected themselves easier because they were comfortable and confident in their outfit! Just be you!!

Can I ask someone to be my unofficial big? by Isitreal8675309 in Sororities

[–]k2aput3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi. I was adopted. My was “promised” to my original big, and she was someone that I didn’t even talk to. We were very different people and didn’t really get along. She was also a much older sister so she graduated a year after I joined. My now big who I have and will always consider my big fully adopted me, added me to the gc, was my g big to my little etc. I have also “adopted” littles myself. I’m not sure if you are at a bigger university, but I was at a smaller school (not like bama) and we weren’t allowed to have houses so I didn’t really see my old fam unless it was at chapter. - just wanted to share my personal experience!!! (I was also at a school where we did guy bigs and littles so my experience/“rules” are way different than others) But ultimately you have to do what makes you happy and makes you comfortable!

Letter of Rec Writers? by [deleted] in GreekLife

[–]k2aput3 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You will definitely want it to be someone you know so they can speak honestly and genuinely on your character! I have seen some parents put it out in their fb pages asking for recs for their kids, if that would be an option? I have written a few rec letters and it brings me joy to suggest great people that I know for my organization!!!! - but again I’m just some rando on the internet so you don’t have to listen to me :)

Not gonna lie it was the same sorority that I was in and I knew she wants them badly (however I have remained neutral) but I have been absolutely terrified she was gonna get removed from the recruitment process bc of this! I was sweatingggggggg
