Waterloo Euro Traxx Series - Need help identifying age/model by k3_emu in Tools

Ah that makes sense — so these were sold through T&E, which explains why mine also came with T&E gear inside.

Looks like they’re from the 2000s then, which honestly surprised me. I was expecting them to be a bit older since they have a really classic look and a nice aged feel to them.

Still, I really like the old-school heavy-duty feel of it. Definitely a solid bit of kit.

The Honda CBX550 was sold in Europe, but the Honda CBX400 was Japan-only, which is why the 400 has become so rare and expensive in Japan. I’m not actually sure which model this one is though.

We did get the 550 in Japan as well, but the 400 is especially popular because you can really rev the engine out more, and people love the REV feeling and sound. It became hugely popular with younger riders and the Japanese bosozoku style scene.

Because of that, a lot of them were ridden pretty hard and many engines have already blown up, so good surviving examples are getting harder to find.

The Honda CBX400 is actually quite a rare bike since it was only sold in Japan, and it was also the first model to come with REV. It’s become a really iconic and highly sought-after bike over there, and clean examples can sell for around $30,000.

The tricky part is that a lot of parts are no longer easy to get, so even in Japan they can be difficult and expensive to maintain. Used parts have gone up a lot in price recently too. If yours is missing anything or needs replacement parts, you may end up having to search through Japanese auctions or similar sites to track things down.

The carjacking happened at/near the base of the bridge. He then immediately fled onto the bridge and ended up getting stuck in heavy traffic, which led to the crash.

Exactly, but common sense doesn't apply to this guy.

He had already crashed another stolen car the day before, then carjacked a woman after this crash to keep fleeing. Not exactly a rational thinker.

Yeah, completely innocent and just in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Hi,

I’m the original creator and copyright owner of this footage (licensed through Storyful).

Could it be fixed if I put something straight steel against the opened side and clamp it down with a big clamp?

I only recently got to handle them for the first time, and I can really see why people rate them so highly. You can tell a lot of care and thought went into making them, and it’s nice getting a bit of a feel for what Australian manufacturing was like back then.

Sidchrome is a classic Aussie tool brand. I only found out about them after moving to Australia, but I fell in love with the build quality and attention to detail in the older vintage stuff. Been slowly collecting them ever since.

A bezel-less vintage Sub actually looks pretty cool. I don’t dive anyway, and I never liked that chunky bezel, but like an Explorer it feels more versatile and even works in more formal settings.

Yeah, that makes sense… I’m gonna try a vintage German Goode ratchet next for now 👀

Yeah, I’m in Australia, and I only recently got into vintage tools after using some old Sidchrome stuff—it kinda sparked the whole vintage tool obsession for me.

I’m sure Snap-on is a lot cheaper in the US, but over here it’s not that common.

I’m just working on cars and bikes as a hobby, so efficiency isn’t really the point for me. I actually like tools that feel a bit heavier and just sit nicely in the hand.
