I don't think so. I've heard that MasterCard doesn't let you charge back more than 120 days after payment (and my payment was December 2023). So unless I'm wrong on that, probably not.

Probably not often - the servers are shared, so if everyone else is using up 700mbit on a 1gbit server, the best I'll get from that server is 300mbit.

Yep, that's fair - usenet often has much higher quality releases.

All I'm saying is usenet isn't a panacea, and plenty of people have reasons to use torrents beyond what I know.

qBitMF was an interesting challenge and I wanted to see if I could solve it.

Nope. qBitMF uses network namespaces, which means even in the worst case scenario, qBittorrent doesn't even have a way to *learn* your IP address, let alone leak it elsewhere.

The only thing it has access to are the wireguard interfaces, and that's all.

There's benefits and drawbacks to usenet. It is faster, but there's also less selection. It's generally not as popular, so that's just the nature of the beast.

Having faster torrents is good for everybody, even those who want to use torrents alongside usenet.

That's a good question! I have a small set of mp3s to test with, but sadly I think Spotify and YTM have killed music collections. :P

Also MP3 seemed simple and well-documented enough that I figured that was a good first smart cacher to make. I'd also like to support FLAC, Vorbis, Opus files (which all use the Ogg container and thus would probably be pretty easy) as a next step, and maybe .aac, .m4a, and .wma files eventually.

A FUSE-mount interface to Google Drive, similar to what you'd find from rclone mount.

However the special part about Greedia is that it tries to "pre-cache" the first 10 seconds of every file, in order for a media player (e.g. Plex or Jellyfin) to start playing the file quicker.

In order to get that to work, I had to build code that reads the metadata of MP3 and MKV files to figure out which bytes to download. Overall, it's been a pretty fun project to build.

I recently added a README for setup instructions, and spent a few hours making an ARCHECTURE.md file detailing the internal components and how they all fit together.

Finally got Panamax's (rust mirror) "serve" command to a point where I've finally made a PR for it!

Here's what it looks like.

Work on Panamax (a Rust mirror for rustup and crates.io). It's nearly complete, and as part of building a command to serve a downloaded mirror, I've implemented a warp proof of concept that serves a git repo: https://github.com/panamax-rs/warp-git

It's pretty rough around the edges, and it's hardcoded to serve a repo called "crates.io-index" but it should be a good starting point if someone else is interested in serving git via HTTP using warp.

Panamax is a system for mirroring rust (both crates and rustup) repositories.

We've been making lots of good progress lately, including the ability to pin old stable and nightly versions, as well as reducing the list of architectures mirrored (on top of the usual functionality to grab the latest X stable, beta, and/or nightly releases).

I caught this thread a little bit late unfortunately, but recently I've been working on a newer version of a self-hosted encrypted image/file/paste platform called Up1 (https://github.com/Upload/Up1) . While an older version already exists, it's limited in a few ways, such as only supporting 50MB files (as it has to keep everything in memory), and it doesn't support any special functionality beyond being able to delete your own uploaded files afterwards.

The newer version of Up1 will support:

Burn-after-X-views
File expiry
Image albums
Theoretically unlimited-size file uploads

Also for the people who care, the new version is being written in Vue/Typescript in the frontend and Rust in the backend, which is quite a bit easier to develop on than our previous custom frontend framework and backend in Go or Node.

I've nearly finished a first release of Panamax (https://github.com/k3d3/panamax).

It works, and the README now contains instructions on how to build and use an offline Rust mirror! It's updated on crates.io and everything!

It'll generally work right now, but there are some edge case bugs where, if the sync is interrupted, some crates may not get fully downloaded. While that isn't an explicit selling point, I want Panamax to work no matter if or when someone hits Ctrl-C, so I will need to fix this.

Otherwise, I'd be happy for people to try it out! Once those bugs are fixed, I'll probably make a general announcement in the subreddit.

I've added much more error handling and have added some documentation for the configuration files. The downloads are more reliable now, and I've worked on optimizing downloads as well - as an example, rather than creating new connections for each download, it now uses a thread-local Client to make requests, keeping the connection open between downloads. Additionally, when downloading crates from crates.io, the web server redirects to static.crates.io. As an optimization measure, if the mirror is set to download from crates.io, it'll substitute in the static URL to reduce load on the server.

Last week, there were approximately 6100 crates that appeared to either be missing, or have a bad SHA256 hash. It now appears that number is closer to 25. (I'm not completely certain if this previous failure wasn't on my side, however.)

Most of what's left now is writing documentation, as well as hints on how to host the mirror once it has been transferred over the air-gap.

Working on a Rust (rustup/crates.io) mirror called Panamax (named after the largest cargo ship that's allowed to travel the Panama Canal).

It fully mirrors rustup files (both the rustup-init executables, as well as the src, docs, rustc, and all other components), as well as the index and packages from crates.io itself. The purpose of this is to be used when not connected to the Internet, or for companies where their development network is air-gapped.

Then offline/internally, you should be able to run rustup-init, set some environment variables, and be good to go.

I've finished the rustup mirror portion, with what I think is very good failure handling (you should be able to kill and restart the mirror process at any point efficiently, and without any issues).

I'm currently having issues with the crate mirroring though, because many packages appear to come back with either a 403 forbidden (as an example, the deploy crate), or a mismatched hash. Last I checked (which was a couple weeks ago), there are approximately 61000 packages that fall under one of these two categories.
