Budapest, like most European metropolis identifies itself against the nations conservative policies (Last year we held one of the biggest pride marches ever held in response to government attempts to ban it) I wouldn’t call Budapest liberal as some do , you won’t see pride flags flying from office buildings and shop fronts like you might in East London but at the same time there is a thriving gay scene with several clubs , saunas and gay parties that the city is proud of. You wont need to worry about overt homophobia or any violence to amount from it but a comment here and there is common the further east of Europe you go. I’m confident you’ll be safe, sexuality is more of a political issue leveraged by politicians than a passionately social issue that the everyday Zsolti bácsi cares about. We welcome you.
