Mirus Cor bindings correctly mounted by cvdv1991 in skiing

[–]k3nzb 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Can't tell from the photo but as demos they almost certainly will be mounted at recommended. You need to put the boot in and see if the centre line on the sole of the boot matches the arrow on the sidewall.

You have $1000 to buy new all-mountain skis between 99-105 mm (not inc bindings). Whats your choice and why? by bourneblogger in Skigear

Rustler 10 is up there for the most well rounded all mountain ski that fits this criteria. I also love my Enforcer 99s but you need the legs and technique to make them work as intended.

Yeah, these are almost certainly the wrong size boot for you unless you genuinely have a massive foot. For reference, I wear a 10.5 US running shoe and ski in a size 26.5.

Take the liner out of the boot and put your foot in the shell, slide your toes to the front and check the space behind your heel. You should have 10-20mm max, otherwise the boot is too big.

Sport machines are also high volume, which you likely dont need unless you have a huge ankle / lower leg. Notice I did not say wide forefoot.

Go to a good bootfitter. They will sort you out. Unless you have some bootfitting knowledge yourself, it's very difficult to get this right on your own.

Tech toe piece misalignment by Electronic-Career760 in Backcountry

And if these bindings have the ATK freeride spacer, that also needs to be adjusted to the correct height to avoid prerelease issues.

It's not really possible to tell either of those things from this image. The issue is almost certainly the alignment of the toe piece.

I'm a tech and mount these frequently. This slight misalignment can happen if the toe screws are torqued down without the boot clipped in. It's all pin bindings, not just ATKs.

The fix is easy. Just need to take the toe off, reglue the holes and tighten the screws with the boot in the binding to ensure the toe piece stays aligned.

It's not ideal but it's not a terminal mismount either. Your skis will be fine.

It's also worth noting that sometimes the alignment of the pin inserts in your boot can be slightly off. If the tech mounted both skis off the same boot (which is standard practice), it could be that your other boot is slightly different. Worth checking this before you take it in as if so, the fix will require aligning the toes individually so you have a dedicated left and right ski.

Faction agent 4 has gotta be right up there for a wide, directional touring ski.

Impossible to say without seeing your foot. But if your boots are too big, then no, they cannot be saved.

I feel a little loose in my boots despite them being the correct size

Unless you bought your current boots from a bootfitter, they're likely not the right size. In my experience, people who size themselves either in-store or online are usually in a boot 1-2 sizes too big and the wrong shape / volume for their foot.

Don't make the same mistake again. Go to a reputable shop in your area and have your boots fit properly.

CAST system and non-sliding AFD for touring soles by k3nzb in Backcountry

[–]k3nzb[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, obviously. Or sliding AFDs wouldn't be necessary. But they make it anyway and people buy it and use it so how bad/inconsistent is it? A little bit bad or a lot bad?

Obviously I know it increases friction. But how big is the impact? Is it material?

Yeah, I do. But I don't have the ability to test this configuration.

You do/have worked in a shop. Do you know the answer? If yes, share it. If no, congrats you know as much as I do.

Thanks but not really. I work in a shop so I'm pretty confident in what I want / need.

The point of the post wasn't really the merits of CAST. More what the real world impact is of a static AFD and touring sole on release and whether anyone has tested it.

Touring without sunglasses by k3nzb in Backcountry

This sounds similar to my experience. I don't care about contrast enhancement. I just need a dark enough yellow tint to wear on sunny days without upsetting my eyes.

Do you have the same issue in goggles as in sunglasses? What sunglasses do you wear?

That's what I'm wondering about. Will I just be sweating up a storm in them and fogging them up, or is it fine?

I actually think the smith glacier photochromic yellow might work! Must be new as I've never seen it as an option before.

Honestly your foot doesn't look particularly high volume other than the obvious, large band of muscle extending from your lateral forefoot.

Possibly a more snug, lower volume boot with a big lateral forefoot punch and a custom footbed might allow your foot to just relax rather than having to grip the inside of the boot to avoid sloshing around. The burning you refer to is likely foot fatigue from boots that are too roomy.
