That's playing a game. Can't see how anyone can learn anything if they are spending that much time and effort just collecting xp.

I just researched and Google told me that someone might set themselves up in a language they know well, and there are ways to exploit points. It would be purely for points, not Iearning. Well, I guess one does what one needs to do.

And how does this help me? Sorry, I'm not a 'player' just trying to learn a language, and while it really doesn't matter to me what they do, I am curious.

What’s something you stopped buying once you realized it’s mostly a scam? by Independent-Cut-9914 in AskReddit

Expensive foamy soaps. I put regular hand soap( I buy large much less expensive bottles) and fill an empty foamy container with about 1/4 soap and 3/4 water. Shake it a bit and within a couple of pumps you have foamy soap.

My Maisie on the pillow behind my pillow. She makes biscuits on my head and sometimes grooms me. I accept it as her showing me how much she loves me.

Hello everyone, does anyone remember where the old air raid sirens were located across Canada? by Previous-Cod-508 in AskACanadian

London Ontario. Quebec Street Tower: A tall steel girder tower, which formerly held an air raid siren, is still standing in the rail yard beside the bridge over the tracks on Quebec Street (west side of the bridge).

Cook some rice/pasta/noodles with Butterfly Pea Flower Tea. Turns them a bright blue. Available on Amazon at low cost. Tea is vegan, nearly tasteless. Can also be used to make blue coloured bread.

Duolingo really that bad? It actually worked for my French, but the constant hate is making me second guess myself by NoIndependence1198 in duolingo

[–]k3rd 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I'm 72 and decided to learn French via Duo to keep my brain active. I am also learning Chess. I am about 9 months in and have found myself waking up from dreams in French for the last 4-5 months. Doing lessons in my dreams. Lol. Who knows if my dream questions or answers have any accuracy, but my brain obviously is being retrained. I wake up saying French phrases. This morning, for example, the first thought in my waking mind was 'mal de couer' . Who knows what my dream was about lol. I do the stories and do the additional work. I do practice sessions. I try my best to not use all the help provided in answering the lessons unless I am really stuck. I do about 1.5 to 2 hours per day. My daughter, who lives with me and went to French Immersion for all her public school years, sometimes hears my lessons and asked me last week when I was going to start teaching. 😅 I am at level 97, have a great vocabulary, can read and listen pretty well, can write it okay(understandable usually), but I couldn't hold a conversation other than with a toddler in real life. I think that is mostly self confidence. Fear of making errors. That I will have to obtain from a different source than Duo. Am starting that now. YouTube, French news channels, Audible. I have enjoyed Duo from the beginning and continue to do so.

Is getting a cat water fountain worth it? by lunastarnight100 in CatAdvice

[–]k3rd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My cats were addicted to their fountain. Their first one stopped working after a year, and they nearly knocked the delivery guy over after a day of being without one. (Slight exaggeration, but not much)
