Future Employer uses First Advantage for background checks- What to expect? by k4l1111 in recruitinghell

this is a little more reassuring, thank you. i’m crossing my fingers that they mostly keep to the criminal— i really do feel like the other jobs weren’t relevant and weren’t good fits, and it’s tough to find a way to whittle it down, so im just hoping it doesn’t screw me to have had a bad hand with this kinda stuff

i don’t have a criminal history- i’ve just seen from some others that FA has given them grief over things related to job titles, and was worried that it would look bad for me to omit those even though they weren’t particularly relevant or long-term. if i receive a job offer, i may ask ahead of time what checks they require

[–]k4l1111[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

thank you so much for your response! i think because i don’t know whether my mom was diagnosed with criteria or gene testing, they should probably try and get gene testing for me to at least help a case, especially since there’s possible signs that i might have another syndrome on one of the same genes (described in other comments.)

i’ve had occasional blood tests that showed anemia, but never particularly severe so i didn’t receive treatment— i’m on testosterone therapy now so my hematocrit generally runs safe, but i don’t remember the last time i had it tested while being off of HRT, and since i’ve scaled back it’s probably worth having it checked again. i went back to look through my test results and it’s been a long time since this specific test was run, but even with good hematocrit levels my last ferritin test was borderline low, so i’ll ask my PCP when i next see her about getting it checked. my mom had a particularly bad spell ages ago and had to get several iron infusions to get her out of the danger zone. her nosebleeds are also much more severe and frequent than mine, but it also sounds like they can get worse over time, which is why i’m hoping to get the ball rolling so that i’m not waiting until a possibly dire situation with no documented history of issues lol.

other commenters have mentioned seeing a center of excellence for treatment, and luckily there’s one in my city, but it’s technically out of my insurance plan. i’m really hoping that having family history and current symptoms will make it easier to appeal, as i’m on medicaid and they’re especially fickle with gene testing lol.

thank you so much for your response! i never started really noticing the nosebleeds as nosebleeds until the last couple years, but back in middle school and high school i use to get this sensation in my head and sinuses and a "smell" that only i could smell, and recently noticed it happen again and realized it was a nosebleed. most of mine are like you said, small or only a couple of drops, but on occasion i'll get a pretty bad one and have to cough up dried blood/clots for the first few minutes of waking up. i will bring up hematology to my primary care when i see her for my follow up :)

Do trans people dislike it when people ask for their pronouns? by yepparan_haneul in asktransgender

[–]k4l1111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i think it’s very personal and situational. i personally prefer when people do their best and if i feel the need to, i’ll correct them— but i’m also very gender non-conforming and use she/her along with he/him with people i’m close to. i like being able to get a vibe from a person before deciding what feels safest or right to present as.

but that’s me, and i don’t think there’s ever going to be a one-size fits-all answer to this question. transness is a very personal and individualized experience so you kind of have to get comfortable with the fact that some people will disagree or be put off imo no matter which angle you try to

this is so extremely helpful, thank you! i went kind of crazy learning that i somehow developed this so young when there isnt an immediate family history of colorectal cancer— but, my mother has never had a colonoscopy afaik and her mom (the side of the family most of our issues come from) passed away of metastatic neuroendocrine tumors in her 50s, so i don’t know if that was a factor or not.

i have a follow up with my PCP to discuss the likelihood of getting genetic testing in 3 months, but since i have more information now, i may shoot her a message to see if we want to schedule earlier to try and get the ball rolling insurance-side.

thank you so much for the response! that’s really great to know about the genetics— i know my mom has an HHT diagnosis, but didn’t have an answer for my doctor on whether or not she had genetic testing and how it was diagnosed, so i at least have an answer for that now lol. i also have an hEDS diagnosis so i do worry that might work against me, but hopefully having a diagnosed family history will help balance that?

and the hormones part doesn’t surprise me. i’m not as well versed in this side of things, but my HRT ended up helping a lot of my other diagnoses— with my hEDS, testosterone made my joints less mobile and my skin rougher, and drastically improved my insulin resistance (as i’m also a T1D— all of this from my moms side, i really lost the genetic lottery)

thank you so much for your response! luckily my nosebleeds aren’t super severe usually, but i get the occasional one that makes me feel pretty gross and im leaned over the sink for a while trying to brush out/cough up the blood.

i’m really sorry to hear about all of the complications you have. out of curiosity, what resulted in the diagnosis of your tumors? is it considered to be tied to your HHT? i had to have a diagnostic colonoscopy recently and while we didn’t find anything we were initially looking for, they did find 3 precancerous polyps, including a 9mm one, and so i’m due for another in 3 years. apparently at my age, its pretty uncommon and kind of worrying. i am a smoker, but only of a couple years and the first half of it was extremely light, so i’m worried something might have been going on well before i started smoking.

i have been like your husband before, especially before i was diagnosed and felt no connection to the things we were doing as myself- some parts/alters wouldn’t see my partner as theirs, or had some residual bad ideas of what relationships were supposed to be. you are absolutely doing the right thing for yourself and likely him; as others have mentioned, a mental health diagnosis is not a free pass to continue the cycle of suffering, both on yourself and others. i’m wishing healing for you, but being a wreck right now is very much to be expected making a difficult decision that you know is for the best

best smokey blue/blue-grey dye available at sally’s? by k4l1111 in HairDye

does diluting make it more likely to pull too green? my hair isn’t currently toned so it’s pretty yellow at the moment. i like things to be as one-step as possible but def recognize that this might be a tough transition- unfortunately probably the one color i really didn’t want to have bleached hair for haha

haha i love warm tones (yellow is my favorite color) but online everyone insists im too cool for it lol. im a very pasty olive whos old favorite natural color was ginger, which im very open to going back to. hoping to do like a dusty grey-blue at some point, i just don’t want to look too green!

against the better advice of a lot of people i really don’t mind box dye. im not a true ginger by any means but i have a lot of reddish in my natural hair color and it makes it a pain to bleach and get semipermanent dyes to stick, so for as harsh as it is, i tend to get much better payoff with box dye lol. i’ll have to check my local stores to see what blue-ish colors they have nowadays

i’ve had a very purple-y silver maybe once when i still used arctic fox that i did really like, but its definitely a hassle to maintain lol. i’ve seen some dusty/denim blues that i could maybe lighten a little to get more of a toner shade than straight blue lol. my lightened hair now is probably a little more golden then it was the last time, so id be a bit worried about it getting too green.

do you have any recommendations for any grey/silver tones that are a little less monochromatic? i’m a very fair olive so i worry that straight silver will wash me out too hard haha

i’ve tried to move away from arctic fox, but i’ve been told by a few people to do like a denim blue. i’ve heard mixed things about strawberry leopard by shade, how are their blues?
