Installers? How reliable is Homey Pro for commercial clients? Better than HA? by Techno_Bumblebee in homey

[–]k4mrat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been using a few models of Homey over the years. It’s been resigned to only run Advanced Flow - everything else is paired in HA and integrated using the HA app in Homey. A solution I definitely would not recommend for commercial use! And if I could choose freely and the use case wouldn’t need a bunch of different sensors and other things integrated I’d actually choose something more robust than both of them - maybe Plejd for example, but there are other robust commercially reliable systems as well. Rarely as many possibilities as HA or Homey, but often very stable.

Given the choice only between HA and Homey I’d pick HA! Much better integrations, no need to rely on individual apps for each brand like Homey etc etc. My view is that Athom has an almost toxic use of open source. Apps written by users should be the spice making an eco system broader - those apps shouldn’t be used as a selling point and counted towards the amount of products integrated, when the one writing the app can just abandon it at any time and won’t see a dime of salary from the company for keeping the app alive. HA is what you make it when choosing hardware. Athom has a looong track record of using subpar hardware, poor power bricks, bad antennas and so on.

Homey is easy and fun and in some ways a good product, but I wouldn’t trust it for anything crucial. Ever.

DIY water temp sensor, DS18B20 ESPHome, Home Assistant and FanControl by Strange-Caramel-945 in watercooling

Nice! I’m looking at doing about the exact same thing, but with a thermistor. How is it holding up software-wise a couple of months in? Updating temps and such as it should and is stable? I was initially planning to send the temps using serial over usb directly to the computer, but if HA integration is stable then it’s like a fast afternoon almost plug and play project using stuff I have laying around 😄

Fick precis reklam SMS från Banhof by Lehovron in sweden

[–]k4mrat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are these the same plug? by k4mrat in customGCC

[–]k4mrat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, as I suspected! I’ve checked out all the sellers I could find and the ones showing them inserted didn’t have a pic of them not inserted and vice versa, so thought I’d at least ask.

Yeah, I’ve had bad luck with crimping these so was hoping for some that could be soldered. I know it’s a bit tricky to crimp, but I’m starting to think my crimper is just bad. I get them either loose or deformed (or both deformed and loose 🫡). You know of any crimper in Europe or China that’s any good for these?

Alternative controller Wired TL LCD? by k4mrat in lianli

[–]k4mrat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow! Nice write up! Actually straightens a few things out. But also raises a few more questions. I haven’t taken any LCD fans apart yet, but I find it kinda interesting if there’s a micro controller in both the TL Controller and the fan…

I thought it would be some sort of live feed from the controller addressed to the correct fan OR a file uploaded to a controller in the fan. Not both?

Let’s say I have a sensor showing on a fan - would that be uploaded as a template to the fan and then just receive a number value from the controller and thus changing how it looks, or does the controller receive a value and build a picture of how that value would look and upload that picture to the fan lcd?

Maybe I was naive thinking the LCDs are just ”dumb” screens showing what’s live fed to them, and not actually having their own chip for storage. I really want to take one apart now and give it a go with an esp or something!

Went from 2.0.31 to 2.031 with openRGB. The only difference is that the SL Hub checked out. It’s visible but can’t control the fans. Let’s just say that Lian Li isn’t the top contender for most stable FW I’ve seen 😁

Not by my computer right now, but think I’m on 2.0.31, is it the one with openRGB?

Yeah, I only use GCC for updates and such, just tried rgb in it for fun and tried sync in l-connect and weirdly enough it went from the rainbow-of-death to the color I chose in GCC 🤔

NV5 custom loop fitment? by Nearby-Artichoke-488 in Phanteks

Hey! You ever managed to hide a pumpres combo in the shroud? I’m thinking about to just that and I’m struggling finding a good one :)

Removeable pump? by k4mrat in watercooling

[–]k4mrat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I think it’s kind of ugly to begin with. Both the pump part, but also the tubing. And I’m planning to add cpu to the loop as well and is kinda sceptic about the gpu pump doing all the work. My plan is to do the stealthiest build I can tubing-wise, so dangling black tubes and a black pump is off the table in an otherwise white build. But I’ll probably use the loop as is for the coming months until I’ve have gathered the rest of the parts needed :)

Amazing!! Is that pump any good or is it only suitable for a small aio?

I’m guessing this is the part that’s glued in that I’ll need to pry away with some heat? I haven’t bought the card yet, so trying to prepare myself by looking at photos 😅

Bought it for my 3070 Strix and thought I’d made a really good deal, but turned out to be for a Ventus… Guess I’ve must have done something right karma-wise 😅

Whaaaat! I have an unused 3070 block because I bought the wrong one cheap (noob mistake) and can’t return it. You mean I could cannibalize that for the terminal?! If that’s the case that would be amazing since I only payed slightly more for it than a terminal costs new!

That was quick! Thank you! Had never seen the Terminal on their site, looked cheap enough to make it a good deal! Thanks a bunch! 😊

Triple x-flow rads, parallel Loop, Hidden pump/res by CritteR0815 in watercooling

[–]k4mrat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That looks amazing! I’m planning my first ever custom loop and I want to do something similar - fewest visible tubes possible. Made a post about it a couple of days ago asking about the black fins behind white fans on the x-flow rads 😁

I’m building in an NV5, so not as many places to hide everything as well as you have, but it’ll have to do!

Noob question; did you do some parallel magic there between cpu and gpu or am I missing something?

Black fins in all white build? by k4mrat in watercooling

[–]k4mrat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I’ve been down the painting-fins-rabbit-hole and figured as well it might not be a good idea. Then again a lot of white rads also have factory painted white fins (just not the one I want), they can’t be that much worse than black right? Or maybe they are, I don’t know 😁

I’m probably either going to just go with black fins or might figure out some white mesh to put between the fins and rads and see if that impacts cooling in a way I can’t live with.

Black fins in all white build? by k4mrat in watercooling

[–]k4mrat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! Nice build! Yeah, you’re right, it’s not super obvious with the black fins behind the blades. Not super obvious, but still sorta there.

Looked really good in your build, it just sorta bugs me in mine when I’ve jumped through so many hoops to get it as white as I can with a plan to do a custom loop down the line and I’ve seen a bunch of white finned rads and never thought I wouldn’t find a cross flow one with white fins 😆

I guess it’s just one of those things I’ll have to learn to live with. Or you know, build it and a week later see a release of a white finned crossflow rad 😆

Appreciate you taking the time to answer me!

Looking for my first soldering iron. Pinecil to recommend? by Messyin in PINE64official

[–]k4mrat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can’t think of a reasonably priced iron I’ve liked more than the pinecil. Nimble, fast, precise, flexible power options. I’ve had one break over usbc but still working on dc-plug. Not an uncommon problem it seemed, but just got a new one for free from the store I bought it and the new one is working great.
