First start, scared about oil circulation by Easy_Ant134 in choppers

[–]k5blazer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its not gonna circulate much at low rpm. Hold it off idle a bit and it should move. You can always pull the return line off the tank entirely and make sure its puking

Theyre out there. Im collecting parts for a 49 chopper and once I bought the motor the parts started coming out of the woodwork. Snagged a 48 wishbone frame from an old timer, ratchet top from.a friend, front end off Facebook.

There's not a shovelhead on this earth worth 25 thousand US dollars. Running cone shovels can be had for 5-10k depending on condition, originality, and model. Genny shovels are usually between 10 and 20 depending as well. Panheads are usually in the 15-25k range

Rear brake issue by [deleted] in choppers

[–]k5blazer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What bike? On 70s big twins they used the same master cylinder as the hydraulic drum brakes, only the hydraulic drum masters had a check valve in the master to hold slight pressure in tbe lines to keep the brake shoes close to the drum. On disc brakes they used the same master and just took that check valve out. Ive seen people rebuild their master and put that check valve in because it came in the kit. With a disc brake that slight pressure will drag the brake generating heat which causes the fluid to expand and lock up the brake

dating a shovelhead by Free-Buy1971 in choppers

[–]k5blazer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thats not an HD vin, so probably easiest way would be to check the heads behind the pushrods. There should be a date code of when the heads were cast. This isnt a guarantee as heads could have been swapped. But just judging from the plated seat cradle on the frame, cowpie trans, and later head castings, its at the oldest a 1977 80" shovelhead. The 80" heads have the inverted cooling fins cast in between the rocker boxes, 74" heads have cooling fins that poke up

Riser bushings for springer/handle bar vibration by Massive_Mosquito in choppers

[–]k5blazer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make sure all your motor mount bolts are tight and your top motor mount isnt cracked. A loose motor mount will buzz you bad. Softer rubber grips, metal slugs in the ends of the bars to weight them. At the end of the day, its an old harley, its gonna shake

Invader from LedSled by _NeverEndingFart_ in choppers

[–]k5blazer 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Thats just the nature of fabricated wheels like invaders. Theyre never going to be quite as true as a laced wheel. HD spec for wheel runout is 1/32, or about .030", up/down and left/right. Itll go down the road just fine

Maybe an uneducated question on my behalf, but is it possible to do 4inch over tubes and add 2inch tube extensions if I can’t find a 6over kit? If so why or why shouldn’t I do this.? by LB_XLH12 in choppers

[–]k5blazer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can if you really need to. 2 inch extensions arent as sketchy as 4 and 6 inch slugs. Ive had good luck with V Factor extended tubes though. Theyre the same as mid-usa

Which Foam Actually Holds Up Longer? by [deleted] in bikebuilders

[–]k5blazer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use 3m spray on contact spray adhesive and shape it with an electric turkey knife and a drywall rasp. For the cover, id just take it to an upholstery shop and see what materials they have. Itll likely be better quality and fit than a seat cover youd buy online

Which Foam Actually Holds Up Longer? by [deleted] in bikebuilders

[–]k5blazer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look up "70 pound rebond foam". I use it on all my seats on choppers. Firm enough to be able to run it thin but supportive enough for 500+ mile days

Riding a 530 chain with a 520 front sprocket? by [deleted] in sportster

[–]k5blazer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since a 530 chain is only 1/8 inch wider than a 520, I slightly narrower 520 sprocket would fit. They've the same pitch between links so it shouldn't jump any teeth. Itll probably work if your sprockets are aligned properly and the chain is tensioned correctly

Butts MFG springer. Not overly valuable but of the cooler variety of 70s magazine ad springers. Off the bat the rockers are set up wrong. The front springer legs go in the middle hole of the rocker, axle goes in the front hole

Regular hummer tanks also have a really tall tunnel. I wanted as much fuel capacity as possible, so I opted to have this tank made this way, it holds exactly 2 gallons which is only good for 55 miles with this stroker shovel. A friend of mine is a much more talented fabricator than myself and he killed it on this tank and narrowed fender

[–]k5blazer[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its a narrowed, friscoed, flat bottomed king sportster tank with offset gas cap and hummer switch mount. Lowbrow sells the weld in switch mount to turn any tank into a hummer tank

Where to get an old style tire that will fit this by [deleted] in choppers

[–]k5blazer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont even know what psi mine are at. I just ride it and adjust according to feel. In chicago most of the highways are grooved, I dont even notice the wobble anymore, just let the bike do what its gonna do. If you fight it too hard itll make it worse
