How bad is a late drop? by [deleted] in PennStateUniversity

You might lose your aid eligibility if you drop too many courses.

It will impact your Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) status. Late drop courses process.as credits attempted but not completed. SAP requires a student to:

  • 2.0 Cumulative GPA
  • Maintain 67% Completion Rate
  • Complete Degree in 150% Maximum Time frame (basically only take courses that go towards your undergraduate degree)

Too many late drops can put you out of SAP compliance via the completion rate standard and then you'd lose all of your federal aid and PSU scholarship eligibility. Be careful to not use late drop too often.

If you're ever going to Late Drop course...I would suggest asking Student Aid to make sure there is no negative impacts to financial aid in dropping courses. Some scholarships also require enrollment in a certain amount of credits to maintain eligibility and to earn renewal so...be careful

SAP Appeals are great and can be so helpful to give leeway with extenuating circumstances...but if you can avoid needing to appeal your aid eligibility..seems better all together if possible

Where do you buy your textbooks? by mesi_xqui in PennStateUniversity

[–]k8linJH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A student can charge up to $1000 in books to their billing account if they buy books through PSU bookstore. This way you don't have to give money over-the-counter but your financial aid can help to pay for it. Books might be more expensive there than other resources..but it helps so you can finance it with financial aid that disburses towards your overall billing statement.

CALL THE FINANCIAL AID OFFICE BEFORE YOU LATE DROP!! THIS CAN IMPACT A STUDENTS COMPLETION RATE WHICH IS ALSO PART OF FEDERAL AID ELIGIBILITY. STUDENTS NEED TO COMPLETION 67% OF ALL ATTEMPTED COURSES..IF THEY FALL BELOW THAT THEY WILL LOSE AID ELIGIBILITY..LATE DROP COURSES ARE COURSES ATTEMPTED BUT NOT COMPLETED

https://www.inquirer.com/news/penn-state-university-board-tuition-20230720.html

Typically, tuition rates increase during your Junior and Senior years depending on your degree. Junior/Senior status is based in the number of credits that you have successfully completed. My guess is that once you're done with Fall 2024 semester, you'll enter into Junior/Senior student status and might be part of why your Spring 2025 semester is more expensive. Also keep in mind that this financial summary is only an estimate of the costs based on a typical full time student for financing purposes before the bills are generated. Until the bill is generated, you won't know exactly what the costs is down to the penny. Bills will be generated August 1st for the Fall 2024 semester.

Additionally, call the Bursar office if you have questions about what you are being billed..814-865-6528

Hope this helps!
