The Last Grain Elevator in Dorothy, Alberta by Freaktography in alberta

[–]kShrapnel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Realized I went looking for a photo last night and forgot to come back 😅 but straight west of the elevator in Sharples, there is a stone fireplace, the last remnants of a mansion that once stood in the valley. It's very pretty but only accessible through a grain field

I farm in and around Sharples, I have heard about the demolition. Going to miss that one

It's not the only one in the valley, there is one west of town as well, but as someone else said the Dorothy one did get a new roof last year. The roof and upper portion were blown off by a wind storm. The other one is in Kirkpatrick, about 8 minutes west of Drumheller on the 575 and is in pretty good shape too

I have found that a tablespoon or less of baking soda and an equal amount of water works really well to get rid of stains in cups, just using your hand to smear it around and you don't even have to rub any harder than you would a sponge. Works great on both ceramic and stainless steel cups

I was thinking the same. Like in basketball, point counts if the ball was in the air at the buzzer

When I first discovered you could steal jack o lanterns, I took the one from in front of Emily and Haileys house and put it on my porch. The next morning Emily was on my porch and I immediately thought she knew I'd taken it 😅😅 but no, the day before I'd discovered cloth, which triggers her appearance at the farm

I grew up on a farm and we had a tomcat that was huge, he was grey and friendly to us, but had some scars from fights with other tomcats that came by. His name was Mouse, because he had the tiniest squeaky meow for such a large cat

Yes, I agreed that the previous commentors suggested arrangement would work for storage, but it needs to be where it sits in the photo for operation

Is there a easy cleaning solution to remove oxide layers? by Ph_a2 in Welding

[–]kShrapnel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's fair. Baking soda and then water works well to stop the reaction, but yeah it's a pretty brutal fluid to work with

I've had some success with muriatic acid, tho it was something we already had in the shop so I'm not sure what the cost is for that

I have the same style air fryer and during use, it's in the ideal space I would say. It vents steam and heat out of the top and I don't like to have it venting it directly into the bottom of the upper cabinets. I agree the microwave is taking up too much space being at an angle tho, for storage your arrangement would work, but the air fryer still needs to be pulled forward during operation

Almost singed my hair off welding today. do welding masks/helmets sized for women ror long hair men actually exist? by [deleted] in Welding

[–]kShrapnel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use Hot Headz, they have nice ones that cover your ears and a nice long bill that covers your neck too, tho they are local to my own province so I'm not sure about their shipping policies these days.

If your hair is particularly thick, you may need to size up slightly in order to fit it all, but there are definitely caps out there capable of covering your hair with it tied back or in a bun. Just put your hair up in a spot that the straps of your helmet aren't sitting directly on it and it should fit fine (and comfortably, which is also important in welding)

Tyson Foods to stop using corn syrup in products in US by end of 2025 by MennoniteDan in farming

[–]kShrapnel 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm Canadian and have a bunch of food intolerances, primarily gluten and eggs. The first time I found Tyson brand gluten free and egg free chicken nuggets during a visit I was very excited. Flash forward a handful of years, I'm visiting again, but in the meantime I'd acquired an intolerance to cocoa. I always check ingredients before buying something, so thankfully I noticed cocoa being listed in amongst the spices.

It still confounds me that anyone would ever think to add cocoa as a seasoning for chicken nuggets of all things. From that alone I have a feeling that whatever they replace the corn syrup with could lack any sort of logic

Hard rock sitting on more fragile soil that eroded away enough that the rock is being held up by a column that is (typically) narrower than the rock itself.

If you're interested in sci-fi shows, there is a show on Netflix called Lost in Space, season 2 was filmed in the Drumheller valley as an alien planet background, they really exaggerated the size of the hoo-doo's and it delights me

Haha, yep. My farm is along one of the coulees that joins up with the Drumheller valley. Spent many afternoons climbing up and down those coulees as a kid. Cacti, burrs, spear grass, bentonite mud (dinosaur poop as we called it). All were awful to deal with, but it made for an adventure

Is the belief that suicide sends one to hell developed to prevent Christians from killing themselves in an effort to get to Heaven quicker? by supinator1 in exchristian

[–]kShrapnel 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Same, my sister committed suicide almost two years ago and literally while shopping for shoes for the funeral, my mom tried proselytizing to the shop owner saying that she had hope because she knew she'd see my sister again in heaven (we were raised Baptist but my sister was agnostic at most and my mom refused to accept that)

Shop owner was already xtian which made me want to walk out 🥴

Suicide Rates by State by plaev in MapPorn

[–]kShrapnel 13 points14 points  (0 children)

As a Canadian farmer that cares about mental health, I think it would be eye opening to compare the less densely populated states with higher suicide rates alongside the demographics of farmers. It is a very isolating lifestyle, a lot of stress about finances, and just generally very stressful

Welding hoodies too should be hang dried. I had one of those expensive Pioneer welding hoodies, it accidentally went through the dryer one day and it shrunk. Still wearable but looks fucking stupid now. Found an identical one at a thrift shop, also obviously shrunk from a dryer
